I'm not getting one yet because of Microsoft's marketing policies (IE prodcuing a number much lower than what they know demand will be to generate artificial hype) and the general lack of truly next-gen anything at the moment.

Plus, I'm waiting to see what gameplay ideas the Revolution brings to the table.

for me, its more about the games. I can get COD2 and King Kong for the PC if I wanted to. The other games don't interest me.

To say Microsoft rushed the 360 would be the video game understatement of the century. BUT, to think that the PS3 is anywhere near being ready (or isn't going to suffer the same shortages and problems as the 360) is incredibly foolish. It's become clear in the aftermath of the 360 launch that Microsoft didn't intentionally create shortages, rather they simply kept with their launch window knowing full well that they couldn't possibly meet any sort of demand schedule. With this generation, basically everything is going to take longer. There's not going to be a PS3 before christmas of next year, nor is there going to be a Halo 3 in 2006. Xbox 360 games like Gears of War are going to see huge delays, and the PS3's launch games like MGS4 will be seen as "underwhelming" when compared to the pre-rendered trailers. Welcome to world of hype.

Either way it's reason enough for me to hold off on going next gen until something worth playing comes out.

And if what you say is true, does that mean the Revolution could actually beat the Playstation 3 out of the proverbial gate?

I have refrained from buying ANY of the Xbox consoles because all of the REALLY GOOD games are also available on PC.

Playstation.......meh

Nintendo.............I've always loved them, but they need to start making REAL GAMES again, not crappy Mario sports spinoffs

I might buy a Revolution (BIG MAYBE), but neither of the others. I decided years ago that Microsoft's consoles can kiss the fattest part of my ass.

By the way: Is Kameo: Elements of Power any good? Because I remember it being on the back of the Gamecube box as it was intended to be a launch title, and yet it's just now getting release. Was it really worth all that delay?

Kameo is short but sweet. You can play through the game and win it in about 12 hours. But then you can go back and replay the dungeons to get better scores and unlock cool stuff. Like making-of video's and alternate costumes.

I too was disappointed with the lack of anything truly amazing on the 360, but I am more interested in what can be done with it if it is ever cracked and able to be modded. Not just so I can pirate videogames, but it's a very powerful computer, and would be awesome to use as one! I'm got loads of emulators running off my regular xbox, and am looking at turning it into an A/V hub with the Xbox Media Center.

I think the next-gen consoles will take quite some time to unfold their true potential. I'm more of a Nintendo nut, so I'm waiting for the Revolution.

Agreed. It's just unfortunate that most of their best stuff over the past year is on the DS.

This WOULD be a good thing if the Gamecube wasn't doing so poorly. They had one game the whole year that got universal acclaim: Fire Emblem. Everything else was either a mixed bag or got varied reviews, and the onlything else worth paying fifty dollars on the GC last year was RE4 (which admittedly was worth every penny, but that's besides the point)

for those who are interested i figured i would let you know that the 360 is very close to being cracked...
they're not far away from figuring out how to crack games and once that happens it will be open season...

So I suppose there is NO way for a videogame company to protect their games, eh? I mean, when Half Life 2 came out, the security behind that was so tight and so annoying that I thought no one could crack that. I was wrong, took only a month after the game was released to open the whole thing... I do belive you cannot play online with a cracked version though.

I too, am eagerly waiting for Revolution. I left console gaming after Sega Saturn in favor of pc gaming. Last year I bought a GC for the family. Nintendo by far has many more family friendly titles. It's a shame the GC never took off.

Nintendo's philosophy on the current state of the industry is spot on, IMO. Cramming graphics chips into a box that supports HD when only like 25% of people with HD are actually using it is NOT innovation. Nintendo is keeping development costs down by not supporting HD, but is giving people tech they can actually use, with WiFi and USB support, as well as that controller that I'm DYING to get my hands on.

*edit* IMO the pc as a gaming platform is all but dead. The pc section at stores like EB and GameStop are almost non-existent.

While I do agree with you, JS, that the PC as a gaming platform may be falling behind the consoles, and yes, it gets much less shelf space at EB or that, it's still my platform of choice. Sure, there may not be all the big names, but I can't play Civ 4 on the XBOX 360

There's no question that certain niche games will be around on pc for a while longer. I LOVE Rome: Total War, and cannot see how it would play out on a console.

Which is precisely why I bought a GameCube. I don't have a lot of time for gaming myself, but I wanted a console that my kids could play on, that was durable, and that I could still find games for, if and when I had the time. The GameCube is all that, even if I had to wait nearly 6 months for Lego Star Wars.

I'm looking forward to the Revolution, and so are my kids.

i am also an avid Nintendo supporter as i feel they are going in the right direction when it comes to making these next consoles next gen...

but I totally disagree with you guys on pc as a gaming platform being dead...
lets all remember that both the Xbox 360 and the PS3 are computers inside that nice shiny case...
when it comes to the PC it will always be the number 1 choice for games for games due to the fact that the technology is always evolving and this in turn helps game developers bring their creations to life...
example: Farcry for the pc and then for the xbox...

when you buy a console you are basically buying a 5 year paperweight...
there are no options to upgrade when it comes to a console... so those who are talking about how next gen their xbox 360s are will be the laughing stock in about a year when the power in graphics cards and processors skyrocket... it happens every new console launch...

and when it comes to sections in game stores i seem to find them balanced... and if they seem to dedicate more room to console games i feel its mainly due to packaging... compare a DVD case to a box for a pc game..

there is no doubt that consoling gaming has gained tons of popularity lately but that doesn't say anything about the popularity of pc games...
they will always be the pinacle of gaming and no console will ever change that...

just my 2 cents

Oh sure your $500 dollar graphics card you bought is the best now, but how well do you think it will perform a year down the road, when newer games come out?

The lack of upgradability on consoles is a good thing. With PCs you have to cater to a wide audince of gamers, so you can't really optmise it for anything. With a console, you only have one peice of hardware to cater to, so you can put a lot more work into making sure it runs on that specific platform.

I know that PC games will look better than consoles given time. But I prefer the satisfaction of being able to put in a game, and have it just work. Not having to futz around with all kinds of settings and installers and copy protection.

With that said, I still enjoy playing Total Annihilation and I look forward to Supreme Commander

I agree with skyman completely. I don't know how many times I've plunked down 20, 30, forty dollars for a game

Actually, by all accounts I've heard Farcry is better on the X-Box than the PC version.
