I would be speechless/shocked for a while and would be itching to find out why he changed his mind, and I wouldnt care about Blu ray or HD release of it, i would buy up a few sets and be happy..

I'm not going to touch BD-DVD or HD-DVD until the DRM is cracked and I can watch HD content on commodity hardware with xine on my Linux box. So yeah, I'd get the DVDs without worrying about BD/HD versions. But I would also expect a later re-release to conform to the state of the art. I mean, why should the Star Wars Trilogy be treated differently than any other film in the catalog? Stop villifying the damn things with some sort of use-by date and, "Buy me, because you'll miss me when I'm gone!" marketing, and treat them like every other movie in the universe.

If he did release the OT on DVD, we'd probably all start complaining about the packaging or something

War does not make one great.

I'm sorry, but I just had to point out that that amused me.

There is no lingerie in space…

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

2) Four horsemen led by a Pale horse will come

4) A pink guy from space will unleash an even deadlier pink guy.
5) Ryleh will rise from the depths and Cthulhu will consume us all.
6) The gas will stop running.
7) Some random guy will stick out his thumb and vanish in a flash of light.

This is a good thread Adam, because for me personally I am not that excited for HD-DVD transition from DVD, like I was for DVD transition from VHS.

Now HD-DVD will of course be better quality, but not by that much that I am going to run out and re-buy every DVD I have in my collection. But when I got a DVD players, there was such a huge quality difference, it was like watching a movie in a whole different way: Widescreen, Dolby Digital 5.1, Anamorphic, Chapter Search, Extras.
Now I never had a laserdisc player, but I know DVD is alot better than that too.

To me, I am satisfied with DVD quality movies, just like I have been with CD music for 15 years. If they came out with something better quality than CD's, I wouldn't go buying all my Rolling Stones and The Who CD's over again. That is the same for DVD, if Lucas releases O-OT as Anamorphic Widescreen, 5.1, I will be content forever.

That's EXACTLY how I feel. In a few years' time, after they come down in price a bit, I will probably buy a Blu-ray or HD-DVD player in (which are both backwards compatible with DVD), but I will not re-buy any of the movies I already have on DVD.
Don't forget: with Lacuna, you can forget.

Yeah round about the time Sony/Toshiba are forcing the next new wave of technology down our throats and make us feel behind the times all over again!

Correct, but there are those of us who ARE interested in Blu-Ray. The general publuic may not be, but those really interested in be3st quality presentation will buy it.

"...or to force fans to purchase multiple copies are completely false."

*sniff, sniff* Whew! What smells like bullshit in here?

It took them 4 years since that artical to put the movies on DVD, and even then we still got some shitty quality elements. Looks like they should have taken an extra year to fix those.

For anyone who says we didn't state exactly what we wanted, this was from January, way before the O-OT was released.

There is nothing "original" about 5.1 ...

None of us here like Lucas or Lucasfilm.
I have death wishes on Lucas and Macullum.
we could all probably get 10s of thousands of dollars!

To make a quick point, trying to upgrade to a different audio format from CDs is not at all like the upgrade to HD visuals. HD-quality visuals look quite a bit better on an HD-DVD format if you were to purchase a big screen with 1080p capability. And not only is the resolution higher, but with the added space on an HD-DVD or BD, you can have less information loss due to the video or audio compression. Less compression means better quality. CDs on the other hand already have enough space to reproduce sound in a way where the human ear can't really notice "better" quality.
