Ok, name them. Tell me where you’re seeing this and not just fanservice junk. Otherwise, this “user error” is pretty universal.
I watched the video you sent. The channels that he’s picking on I would agree don’t have much passion. It’s clear that this is a money-making venture for them. But it was a boring video in general because he’s just pointing out oddities with the technology that will inevitably be solved as it continues to evolve.
I recommend these channels:
Star Wars Chronicles
Latent Diffusion
The difference with those is that even if they borrow extensively from source material, it’s clear that they’re putting their own spin on things. Real artists do this all the time. John Williams’ score for the original Star Wars is extremely derivative of Gustav Holst. Please watch this video.
Then learn how to write, how to draw, how to create things without AI. It’s that simple.
I was fortunate enough to be born with the ability to write well. Articulating my thoughts in a clear and concise way comes naturally to me. I know plenty of people that, try as they might, are simply not skilled in this way. Some even have disabilities like dyslexia. It really isn’t “that simple”. Drawing, for instance, was something I’ve tried to get good at as a young person. But even if I kept practicing, that didn’t mean I would ever turn out to be the next Leonardo da Vinci. Lots of these things are just genetic. These things might come naturally to you, and you’re blessed to be able to say that. But you have to understand that this makes you sound like a very ignorant person. I’m not calling you that, I just wanted you to be aware.
It makes garbage and that’s all the users will ever get from it. Trying to couch it in the language of financial privilege is a filthy tactic, given how AI has destroyed so many financial privileges for many.
Once again, this technology is still in its infancy. Trying to punch it while its at its lowest point feels like a filthy tactic to me. All I meant by the financial side of things is that, for the longest time, Hollywood has had a stranglehold on the types of stories that can be developed because the barrier to entry to make a movie is so incredibly high. You need to have connections to a corporation in order to make a huge project like that. Or, if you want to use military equipment, suddenly the US government gets to say what does or doesn’t go in your movie. As a result, there are plenty of folks that feel the kinds of narratives they want to see are not being developed. And I don’t mean that in a political sense necessarily, moreso that they’d like to see storytelling prioritized over any particular agenda. It’s the same issue that George ran into when trying to develop his movies, and it’s why he hated Hollywood (and they hated him in return). It’s why it’s exciting to see new directors like Curry Barker somehow able to make it mainstream despite the odds.
This isn’t mythmaking, it’s fanwank. But unlike the best Rule 34 you’ll find online, it was made without any real skills or passion. You can try to dress it up all you want or try to add nuance, but it’s all deflection. You so deep in this hole that I know I’m wasting my time, but I just want to get my points out there.
I don’t feel like I’m in a hole. This is authentically what I believe. I too realize that this is a waste of time but I want to get my points out there so people don’t truly believe that I’m out here mindlessly shilling for AI corporations. I’m simply pointing out that, since this technology will inevitably consume our daily lives in the future, there is a way that this could all go good for us if we started embracing it in the way I’m describing now. But people don’t want to wake up to reality at all, I guess. Whatever. Your loss.
