What were some implications that made you initially believe Star Wars took place in the far future of humanity?

I know it says a galaxy far far away but I’ve seen two sources from the 70’s and 80’s saying Star Wars took place in the year 3000 A.D. and the 24th century respectively.

This question can only be answered by older folks who saw the movie in 1977 and were also already old enough to speculate intuitively

Huh?

As a kid I thought it was happening in the present, just in a galaxy far, far away. I didn’t like the fact when I realized that it had all happened a long time ago, like the title card says. I think it’s cooler to think that “somewhere in space, this could all be happening right now” like the trailer says, than some story that happened millions of years ago. I mean, who cares about that, I want to know what’s happening now.

And in the time of greatest despair, there shall come a savior, and he shall be known as the Son of the Suns.

I never did. It all happened a long time ago. In a land far away. Its the kind of thing you put in front of a legend or bedtime story.

As if to say this is a story and none of it is real.

I know at one point Lucas set Star Wars in the far future. 33rd century?

If Alien Exodus had been published, the humans of the SW Universe would’ve been established as the descendants of refugees from the world of THX 1138.

I refuse to dehumanize anyone. Your ethical/moral/political/religious views may be repugnant to me, but I strive to hold Luke 23:34 close to my heart.
