My god, that looks amazing and is just what I’ve been hoping for, all this time. I have the Blu-ray re-grade and it’s pretty great. The mono track however is VERY rough and would now be better served with the addition of the original mono that Warner provided with their 4K disc (the only good thing about that disc, I reckon).

There are two fanedit versions I know of, one is a proper 35mm scan here;

The Exorcist & The Shining Blu-Ray

The other is a Blu-Ray regrade project, which is on MS (for those who have access to that)

I see Dr. Sapirstein is having a go at this again, apparently using both the 35mm print scan mentioned above as well as a French print. I have a copy of the aforementioned, and I have to say I’m really not impressed with the fidelity of the picture. There is no visible grain, despite the underlying master having been created from a 5K scan of the print. I wish I knew how that happened. I spent a lot of money on that double feature Blu-ray with The Shining (which I haven’t watched).

Perhaps the good Dr. could chime in and comment on the differences between the German 35mm print scan and the upcoming 4K project? Here’s hoping there’s actually some grain. Bear in mind also that the mono soundtrack Warner included on their heinous 4K release has a weird sound level issue during the on-campus filming scene, where the crowd’s cheers (as Burstyn is talking through the megaphone) are weirdly dialed down to barely-audible, in sharp contrast to every other sound mix of the film.

a/ As previously mentioned, I have recalled/deleted this release, in profit of a completely new preservation I’ve been working on for close to a year, based on a 1974 35mm print I acquired since releasing this now discontinued preservation.

b/ @dark-jedi: no need to spew your venom, you’ve copiously made your point already in other threads too. Yes, I had added “a Dr Sapirstein Preservation” to the main title, which had nothing to do with “ego” and everything to do with the fact that I was pissed off to see some of my releases being sold online while they were meant to be free downloads. I understand some can find this one tag a tad intrusive - it hasn’t appeared and will not appear on any other release - but you can keep this snotty remark to yourself. And “we will never see this on your releases and covers”? Good for you. At least my releases are available.

c/ The 79 Laserdisc doesn’t feature the original 1973 Mono mix, no commercial release of THE EXORCIST does.

How do you know that past releases didn’t alter the audio in that scene? Every past release was a remix of some sort and not the 1973 mix. It could’ve been that way in the 1973 mix and no one would’ve known.
