Well I never said it wasn’t, but that is rooted in Mon’s POV more than it is A Message™ of the show. (Though is anyone pro-arranged child marriage?) Its inclusion overall is in an observational mode more than a didactic, critical one. It’s an interesting note on how younger generations / diasporas can seek more strongly traditions that older generations or a homeland might have moved on from. Mon’s dislike of it, is a reflection of her identity as a liberal imperial senator.
It’s all contextual either way, the show isn’t a blanket pro-all tradition or anti-all “progress”. Similarly in how it’s not a black and white pro-materialism, anti-spiritualism take on Star Wars, as much as that is a reflection of Cassian himself. It all meets in the middle or horseshoes, manifest throughout all the characters.
It’s all interesting and cool, and is taking cues from the messiness of history. It’s just a shame to primarily engage with it as a game of What Is Tony Gilroy’s Intended PsyOp™? That’s not what the show is doing!
