Tongue-in-cheek jokes and serious considerations both welcome. Obligatory “it would suck”.
They’d be able to tell that the Death Star gets built, and I’m sure they’d figure out that it gets used. I’m not sure they’d guess that there are two Death Stars. The Mandalorian mentions that there are two Death Stars, but strictly in the ST, they never mention there being a second Death Star.
They would definitely write a Throne Room scene into their OT. Of the movies they’d watch, half of them have a Throne Room scene. The Rise of Skywalker even shows us the Emperor’s Throne, so they might correctly place it on the Death Star.
If they had any cultural osmosis from the OT, they’d know to make Luke’s parentage a twist. But if not, they probably wouldn’t assume to. From The Last Jedi, we know that Luke will redeem Darth Vader, foreshadowed in Revenge of the Sith. They might deepen that by having Obi-Wan explicitly train Luke from youth to defeat Darth Vader, especially since the prequels do little to lead into Luke being just a normal kid being raised by his aunt and uncle. Luke seeing the good in him might not come from realizing Darth Vader is his father, but in hesitating in his mission. As for Leia, I’m not sure what her story would look like in the OT at all. Like Luke, her relationship with the Organas is not really justified by the prequels so I doubt they’d come to the same conclusion about what that’s like for her. But she isn’t being hidden with a Jedi between the PT and OT, and we know from The Rise of Skywalker that she’s never trained as a Jedi in OT, so that isn’t what she’s going to be up to.
I bet they’d think that the OT is tonally more similar to the prequels, slower paced and with way more politics, and way more centered on Coruscant. Especially if they know that the ST was made after being sold to Disney. But even if they don’t, they might perceive the First Order blowing up the New Republic as a signifier of a tonal shift in the series. No more politics, full action adventure. This would also reframe the ST a little bit, instead of being a retread of the OT, resetting the status quo to A New Hope in The Force Awakens might come off like a massive power play that apocalyptically removes a huge element of the narrative and alters the tone of the story permanently. Chewbacca knows Yoda, so he’d probably have more of a connection with the Jedi than he does in the OT. Maybe he even already knows Luke before Episode 4.
I’m not sure what they’d do with Han. He’s back where he was in A New Hope as a smuggler, and they do explicitly call out that he’s gone back to his old ways. So they might make him into a criminal, who leaves his life of crime to join the Rebellion, but I doubt this would be the kind of arc it is in the actual OT. I doubt we’d see Jabba or expect any connection between him and Han, despite Jabba appearing in The Phantom Menace.
After the revolving door of villains in the PT, I doubt that Darth Vader and Palpatine would be the only Sith. We don’t see any of Dooku’s apprentices in the PT, but I think it’s reasonable to expect that Darth Vader would try to train an apprentice of his own. Maybe Darth Vader even dies before Episode 6 and we see Palpatine train another apprentice. Who knows.
What else?
