(The Mandalorian+BoBF) The Way of Mandalore | A Legends Movie Saga (SAGA COMPLETE) — Page 38

Honestly, maybe it’s best to leave the movie alone until we get more content. Ahoska season 2 is supposed to come out in early 2027, and more importantly is the crossover movie that will bring all parts of the Mandoverse together. Making a substandard epilogue after a great run of fan edits might still end up being a disappointment.

I do not think it would be much of a risk too give Din a noble death in an edit of the movie.

  1. It is highly unlikely Din and Grogu make an appearance in Ahsoka season 2 next year. Season 1 of that show was a dud, and thus far the Mando-Grogu movie is not exactly shattering any box office records.

  2. Lucasfilm has an extensive track record for not following through with planned movies. No guarantee that the Thrawn or another set-up movie ever gets released. This will become increasingly likely given recent disappointments in the Mandoverse.

  3. Even if we do get the Thrawn movie several years away, Filoni will likely want Ahsoka and the Rebels characters taking the lead in the fight against him. I suspect Luke and the OT characters will play secondary roles in that movie. That leaves very little room for Din and Grogu. At best, they will have very minimal cameo appearances. They both could just be cut out in a future fan edit anyway.

By all means proceed with your preliminary plans for this. Star Wars really could use characters dying off in a dignified manner given its history of characters repeatedly surviving fatal injuries.

I just want to preface with that I really enjoyed your edits as a whole, and was pleased with the flow of the story for the most part so I only have a few technical notes.

As many people have already mentioned, and for me personally on my OLED in movie 2, theres a few scenes where the color banding looks rough (which if anything highlights how great the rest of the movies look). Especially at around 1h 12m in, theres a desert scene at night, and I could barely tell what was happening with the characters because it was so pixelated.

As far as sound, like 90% of the movies sounded great on my speakers. There were a few instances where (especially during combat) the sound effects were much louder than the music/voices. I couldn’t really say in retrospect where those occured, but I started noticing it around movie 3/4.

In movie 6 this was especially prevelant, the fight scenes are really bombastic and explosive and I was having to balance it being too loud, turn it down, then back up when the combat stopped and people were speaking. Not a big deal but yeah.

The subtitles for the most part were perfect and appreciated, aside from a random @ or # next to a word on occasion but it wasn’t a big deal until I got to movie 6. For whatever reason I couldn’t find a CC setting that made the random characters go away completely and it was a bit distracting trying to read when the Mandalorians were speaking to each other.

This concludes my notes, thank you for letting me view your edit. This will have a permanent spot on my watchlist.

So interesting! Thank you for sharing, sent Book 6! Oddly enough, for me reviewing my own series, I would rate it:

4, 1, 3, 5, 2, 6

Book 6 is your least favorite? or am I misreading?

I would definitely not want to make a substandard epilogue, but I do think I could make a solid epilogue with my main idea.

I will definitely do an Ahsoka edit at some point in the future. Right now I am running a poll tournament on my YT page for folks to vote on what my next edit should be, so make sure you check that out if you want to have a say!

That’s about exactly along the lines that I’m thinking! And like I said before, it’s really not hard to move this Epilogue film idea back a few years in the timeline if needed too.

Thanks for the feedback! I can take another pass on sound balancing in a v2 touch up this summer.

Yes, that’s how I would rank my own personal enjoyment of rewatching each film. 6 being at the end just has to do more with the source material than anything. I’d give the original production a 2/10 and say my edit brings it up to a 6.5/10, so that’s still a big win in my book!

I would have to say, 4, 2, 5, 6, 3, 1.

Okay so I just got back from the new movie. I saw it in 4dx which improved the experience. My wife and I agreed we would have been a lot more bored at certain parts without it. So I’m gonna give my thoughts on it being integrated into TWoM, but also just use this opportunity to review it.

First thing I need to point out:

Patali said:

I’ve been experimenting replacing Disney’s “Star Wars heads” intro with just the classic “A long time ago”. But for Mandalorian, and for yor first movie covering season 1, I wanted a couple lines of prologue in the blue text, similar to what Solo did, just to set up the story of the greater series and add a little hype. Was fun to make:

https://youtu.be/otSc7vT7T1Y?si=WWBv6iBrHUG_4rGb

Did anyone who watched my little intro notice this? I made this a month ago, well before I saw anything besides trailers. The new movie follows the format EXACTLY. Same music, fades in top half of the text, fades in bottom half. The Han Solo movie did blue text too, but it was centered and slowly zoomed in. This Mando movie literally used the exact same format I did to a tee, the only difference being they made the text tan instead of blue (and no long time ago at the start). Guess I was pretty on the pulse with this one.

As for the movie. It is essentially what everyone has said. I was surprisingly less bored than I expected (perhaps due to the 4dx as mentioned). I did not think it was bad. I felt extremely neutral. So, just in order that I can remember:

  • Opening text, I obviously liked as mentioned above.
  • Opening credits do not belong in Star Wars. This was the final straw that made Lucas leave the Director’s Guild of America. Every movie had opening credits, they wanted him to have it in Star Wars. He knew it wasn’t right. He left the guild so he could keep his film true. Opening credits don’t belong in Star Wars. I liked the opening sequence and music otherwise, just take out the credits.
  • Rotta and the Hutts should not speak Basic, 100% agree with everyone else here on this. As well, they didn’t even try to give Rotta a hutt accent, he just sounded like some dude. Surprisingly my wife disliked this even MORE than I did.
  • I liked the little mechanic guys. The way they talked was funny and I thought they were comedic relief done right in Star Wars.
  • Definitely felt disjointed dealing with the Hutts and not even mentioning Boba Fett. Honestly were it truly integrated into the story, Boba should have been involved on some level. They made a lot of bad sacrifices trying to untie this from anything that might confuse someone who doesn’t even watch the series.
  • I thought most of the action scenes were fun.
  • I thought it was silly that after the major villains were dispatched at the end, the fighting kept going? I sort of get it, but wouldn’t our new friend now be in charge? I thought that would have been good development for him, he didn’t want the throne but then he takes the mantle. I was 100% expecting him to yell “Stop!” and the droids to listen.

Okay, everything else is dealing with more major spoilers and Bagel’s ideas on integrating into TWoM (I’m sorry I could not figure out how to put this under one single spoiler bracket, so I have it here under several brackets):

When I first read Bagel’s idea of killing Din, I thought "Is this going to be shoehorned in, like a little moment we thought he might die and then Bagel just doesn’t bring him back? But, no… this was a BIG moment, and there was a ton of useable footage that, after watching, I totally agree… the best way to salvage this story is to make it about Din dying.

IMO, I would probably even change more of his dialogue earlier in the movie, in order to make the weight of the story heavier, and a tiny bit of foreshadowing.

Now, as far as how the edit would play out, this is where it gets more complicated, and I’m sure you probably have some ideas, but I think there’s a few key questions on how to handle it, and I’ll give my opinion as well:

  1. Do you have him simply die at the point where he collapses, and we assume Grogu did get on the ship and leave?
  2. Does Grogu do what he did in the movie, come back to find Din, but this time unable to help him.
  3. What happens with the death of the Hutts sequence and Rotta after? Do we skip it?
  4. Do you integrate the death of the Hutts BEFORE he falls in the jungle?

To me, I think a combo of 2 and 4 are the clear answer. However 2 definitely has the highest priority. I think it could be easy to have Grogu just leaving on the little ship. But, if he does that, we get no real goodbye. I think Grogu as a character, will need that closure. And I think those clips of him covering up Din, and the one of him sleeping in his arms are amazing. But put those in the context of Din being dead, and that being Grogu “burying” him, and snuggling with him one last time (like Simba in lion king), and wow… people will be bawling watching your edit. That clip of him snuggling up, just in the movie as it is, made my wife tear up.

Going onto point 4, if it could somehow be made to work where Din fights the beast, then Din and Grogu fly back, kill the Hutts, jump off the side, THEN Din dies in the jungle… I think that would be best. Simply because, Rotta being as important as the movie made him, whether that was a good move or not, needs resolution, and also, the twins, who have been important in the crime storylines, not ever showing up again needs a resolution. I was expecting, assuming we’d be lucky enough to get one more season of Boba Fett under Dave, for them and Boba to have a war. Obviously not going to happen now.

Anyway… I think this has GREAT potential to be a heart wrenching ending for Din. I completely see where you were coming from. In fact, Favreau had so much footage in there, I can’t help but wonder if he wasn’t experimenting with the idea while filming the movie.

I’ll add one extra note, that when I told my wife this idea, she pushed back and said it would be too emotional and she wouldn’t be able to take it as a new mom… but lmao it is STILL the best idea and I think you should do it.

So, I’ve finally finished my rewatch, this time with Episode 6. I love what Bagel did and all of the story changes.

It’s hard for me to critique it, because I’d never be able to do something like this myself, but on the other hand, I wish (if Bagel or someone else decides to revisit this saga) there could be slightly more polish. There are some confusing, abrupt cuts, some glitches, and artifacts here and there.

That said, I really appreciate Bagel’s work and thoroughly enjoyed it!

Honestly I’d appreciate this edit more if it found a way to remove Ahsoka entirely lol

I must have missed something but, does Book 6 have subtitles for the Mandalorian dialect?

It does but try watching on VLC as the subtitles are not burned on yet, it’s the first release so it had been ready for Mando and Grogu!

Acbagel will be releasing a follow up as he always does tidying the edit up

I’m not sure how people do the brackets on here but I’ve had some thoughts on the inevitable Grogu and Mando edit as has been shared prior

Don’t read if you have not seen it yet! I will be vague but still not worth the risk!

(I agree with Acbagel’s ideas for it, as in a way it was a pointless but fun movie.

To make it feel more connected, are there any AI voice lines to mention the Hutts at points through the series to build up to it, as they are Boba’s enemies not Din’s. I don’t think there are any spare scenes you could use to shoehorn Boba into it, but maybe a call with him whilst flying like you have done before? Boba needed to be relevant to this.

In the actual edit of the movie could heavily change the Hutt involvement to be regarding the events of book 6 as opposed to the contents of the film, scrapping anything to do with Rotta after the planet we meet him on. Maybe don’t even acknowledge that it is Rotta and have it be an informant he ends up being forced to fight where they go their separate ways. Book 6 could be split into the film with content shared, but this will be a lot of effort to fix as it runs smooth chronologically.

Like I said it was a fun film, but the more I’ve talked about it since, it does feel pointless and a waste of hitting cinemas. Just my thoughts though I know many loved it)

I think it should be Boba doing the bombing run at the end, not the NR.
And I agree with maybe finding a way to insert him earlier. Maybe he warns Din about the Hutts being untrustworthy, hence it making more sense how Din is willing to listen to Rotta and screw over the NR’s deal with them.
It may be hard to cut Rotta out of the final fight. He seems pretty heavily tied to that final moment of them falling into the Pit. Which, I think is a GREAT moment. One of those fan fiction fulfillment moments of “What if Jabba had fallen into the rancor pit”.

Hey Acbagel,

For some reason I’m not getting subs for Mando’a and non-English alien dialogue for Book 6.

Well it looks like I found another reply to watch on VLC. Thanks!

Now that Mando and Grogu is out, is there any update on the 2.0 for book 6 if you are still looking into it?

Having burnt subtitles on its own would be a significant upgrade!

For the Mando and Grogu edit completely agree with you Patali if it could be worked with Boba dropping the bombs and further conversations to keep him relevant it would tie it together nicely. I was not impressed with Rotta but on hindsight removing him from that last fight isn’t really practical to work around.

After all this I can imagine a well deserved break from Acbagel though in the meantime to spend time with family

The more I think about it, the more I think Bagel’s idea is great but is going to likely require a lot of AI/custom work.

Here are my thoughts on how it can go:

  • Boba and Din have a conversation, maybe over radio early on about the Hutts with Boba giving him a warning to not trust them.
  • In the 3rd act, Din and Grogu escape the castle the dragon and into the woods. Din does not get sick. They do their preparation and ride back in to kill the hutts.
  • It is Boba doing the run as I described above. He warns Din and Din tells him to do it anyway. Uh AI moment, seismic charge???
  • Din and Grogu escape as before. Din runs into the woods. NOW we get those shots of him starting to stumble and get sick, being chased by the robots. Those are great “dying hero” shots.
  • We go through that whole sequence, Din dies. The shots of Grogu with him already present in the movie are actually super emotional in the context that it is him dead, not just sick. Grogu gets his goodbye.
  • AI of Boba arriving on the planet, looking for Din and Grogu. While Grogu is on his mini adventure, Boba finds Din’s body.
  • Eventually, it is Boba who finds Grogu. Boba watched his father die.
  • Boba takes Grogu back to Luke which is how the movie ends. You get a hand off of Boba to Luke, which will show great development seeing how Luke put him in the pit. THis whole sequence will likely be completely AI so this is a challenge for sure.
  • Nice cause Luke ALSO saw his father die.

It 100% feels like Favreau filmed this movie and left Din dying as a possibility that would have gone something like the above. But they decided not to go there, probably in the hopes of non fans watching it. Which to be fair, I heard of a lot of first timers watching this and enjoying it. I think Mando and Grogu is actually a great intro to Star Wars.

I have also been thinking about this, a lot actually recently. In terms of your points I fully agree and would make it a more natural fit for Boba, love the ending idea but I’m not sure if we’re there yet with AI as that would be very AI heavy without a scene template to work from. Might be easier adding a camera shot from behind of Boba approaching Grogu to make it less content heavy only showing his legs as he approaches then a shot of his visor or something before taking him to Luke as AI jank would break the immersion of a very emotional scene. Could have a Slave 1 cockpit scene with a sad Grogu to break it up a bit. In an ideal world if it works absolutely behind this. May be easier to keep it minimal with Luke too for the handover, echo Revenge of the Sith’s ending when kenobi gives Luke to Beru and Owen, no words but with a strong score prior to credits.

The only extras I would add/change would be the Rotta involvement (I don’t know why i have such a vendetta against him, but I just don’t like this chatty “bro” Hutt). I agree it is hard to remove him from the ending, but even with making him speak Huttese, consider Din not going after him after the arena match as he knows the Imperial he is after so Rotta is not seen again after the fight until he is seen captured.

I need to rewatch this and see if anything else comes to mind, but ultimately there is not a whole lot to work with and Din’s death would at least make this relevant.

Could Rotta be killed off? Especially if we want this to be the end of the Mandalorian’s wider story and adjacent characters, maybe Rotta could be killed while the twins are doing the mind flare thing.

I like the idea, but it would be difficult to edit around his hulk smash resulting in the twins falling down, unless the fall could be worked into the Boba bombing, still need to rewatch this thing

Hi Acbagel,

I just wrapped up Return of the Jedi and am looking to dive into the Mandalorian era through your The Way of Mandalore project. Your narrative restructuring across the six books—especially the custom VFX work for Season 3 and weaving Boba Fett directly into the main story—sounds incredible.

I own official access via an active Disney+ subscription and would greatly appreciate links to check out the saga.

Thank you for all the hard work and artistry you put into this project.
