I have the non-upscaled 35mm telecine transfer. I wish I knew the original source of it. It was probably transferred during the pre-Blu-ray days. The file size is 2.7 GB. I kind of prefer it to the upscale because it’s un-futzed with. I also like that the track is uncompressed, and in mono, naturally.
This is a project I was really hoping someone would undertake at some point. I know STAR WARS rules everything, that’s the reason why this site exists. But, AMERICAN GRAFFITI is in my personal Top 10 list of my favorite films – ever. Alongside other 70s films like THE GODFATHER, THE EXORCIST, THE CONVERSATION, CHINATOWN TAXI DRIVER, DAYS OF HEAVEN, APOCALYPSE NOW, among others.
If you need a copy of the non-upscaled 35mm telecine, shoot me a message. Also, I would love to see a version of this when you are ready to share it.
American Graffiti is in my top films, as well. Some days it tops the list. Lucas’s early work was especially impressive. To make a film such as Graffiti as his second feature, and Star Wars as his third, speaks volumes to the genuine skill he had. We all have our gripes with him for various reasons, but I respect the hell out of him for what he managed to accomplish.
I believe I have a copy of the non-upscaled 35mm telecine that should be identical to yours, but feel free to flick it through and I can compare the two to ensure I have the best copy.
Definitely hoping to get some feedback on the project, I have uploaded a few videos which you can find in this thread if you haven’t seen, but am planning to showcase full scenes and such as I make more progress. No updates to share at the moment, as work has swamped me and halted progress for the last couple of weeks. Stay tuned!
