I agree Dark Horse is the best. The Aliens comics were mind blowing. I know you’re not a big fan of the prequels but those Republic/Clone Wars comics are the best version of Lucas’ clone wars hands down. Way better than the movies and tv shows

The prequels! They had massive issues but they were at least original and were fun in parts. I’ve watched all of the prequel movies several times. I haven’t rewatched ep 7 or ep 8, and never watched ep 9 at all. The best part of the re-quel trilogy was the trailer for TFA, lol. They either re-trod or screwed up just about everything else.

Actually, I loved Star Wars Republic. and Rebellion. and I was a fan of battlefront II the game, Republic Commando the game, Jango Fett Open Seasons comic. Star Wars Bounty Hunter the game. I happen to really like the prequel EU stuff that isn’t Filoni. like Genndy Clone Wars.

I guess they call that material the multimedia project because it was in animation, games and comics. the old Clone Wars not the 2008.

Star Wars obsession is another one of the comics I liked.

The Alien Dark Horse comics, Alien VS Predator. Deadliest of the species had great art. Eduardo Barreto. I didn’t think the Star Wars Special edition was as good as it could have been, vs Howard Chaykin’s 1977 version. Well, they rushed that so much. He was second choice anyway, they wanted Al Williamson for Star Wars A New Hope Special Edition comics adaptation. Dave Dorman did get to do the cover art. Williamson I do believe inked the book.

I still remember Alien vs Predator and Batman vs Alien. Batman vs Predator. I vaguely remember Dave Dorman Alien covers. My favorites were Tales of the Jedi, Dark Empire and some of the Indiana Jones cover when they weren’t drawn or painted by Hugh Fleming or Mathieu Lauffray. I quite enjoy the Heir to the Empire adaptation, I wish Dark Force rising and the last command was nearly as good in interior art.

The unfinished pages of the artist who did not do Dark Force rising were intriguing. Gil Kane apparently, he worked too slowly. Of course, now its claimed due to scheduling conflicts.

Al Williamson’s Classic Star Wars loved that. I loved Dark Empire.

The 1990s was a special time to be a Star Wars fan. And Dark Horse was taking the galaxy by Force like their slogan.

Yes. clone wars multimedia project > clone wars CGI cartoon, easily.

The Prequels because they have a few climactic moments sprinkled throughout like the March on the Jedi Temple and [not] arresting Palpatine. The sequels are a lot like Camelot, they just get silly: gravity dropping bombs in space. The nail in the coffin though is Rogue One: a truly excellent movie and the closest to the original trilogies

I don’t mind revisiting the prequels for their film scores even I don’t enjoy the films. John Williams did a good job. I only wish the screenplays and dialogue were as good as his music. Or clearly Lucas had definite ideas or where to take things and struggled with the method of getting what he wanted on screen. From the technology, too much CGI. And the screenplays having some of the most inept dialogue of all time.

I still remember somewhat liking the visuals, but being perplexed by how this could be the same person who wrote his other movies. There is very little likable people in the movies, people speak unnaturally. The Jedi are portrayed as at once political and also acetic monks. It does not work for me. I make no judgment on Lucas spirituality or faith, just that I never saw the Jedi except Yoda in those terms.

Yoda is at the point of being beyond the realm of the physical, he is almost a purely dream like otherworldy figure. Like the guru who helps the hero in his quest. He is almost mystical. I mean in TESB i’m not basing my view of him on the prequel. And his powers are so above using a lightsaber. A duel with him would be terrifying, like it would with the Emperor. When Wizard, Jedi or Sith Lords at their highest potential have a Wizard duel. Needing a lightsaber for such powerful beings is almost too ridiculous for words.

Jedi Knights on the other hand must be good with a lightsaber. Warriors of some skill. There is too much sitting in councils and boring politics in the prequel and not enough Swashbuckling adventure. There is almost none. None of what made Star Wars 1977 so fun and instantly rewatchable.

John Williams is pretty legendary. We went to a concert of “The Music of John Williams” at the Nashville Symphony a few years ago (before kids) and it was one of the better ones. Highly recommend. I actually picked up Duel of the Fates yesterday

I guess the Sequels, but there isn’t that much between them.

Really it is only because I’ll watch the official cuts of TFA and TLJ but will want to watch an edit of TROS, and for the PT, I’ll want to watch fan edits of all three films or not at all.

Rey became The Skywalker. The heir of Sidious wielder of his power and authority, a Sith by birth. Self adopted Skywalker. She was a better Skywalker than Luke and Anakin, and a better pilot of the Falcon than Han. that is how you know the Disney films are like expensive fanfiction. Except the corporation involved is not any fan. Product by studied marketing, by committee. not art. what they wanted was to sell toys and get people to a Disney theme park. story was never important. they sacrificed the entire legacy and the Lucas characters, for temporary gain. as short lasting as the promise of JJ Abrams mystery box.

The Irony is it’s the older fans, the ones they chased away, that buy the physical media releases and the other merchandise like the toys.

That bought all the novels and comics. the video games. Through all the years there were no films then there were the prequels, then no more films.

Neither. Both are horrible. Franchise would be better if they never existed.

I think the prequel by design is supposed to be about boring space politics and not a standard adventure movie like the original. and the lack of a likable lead protagonist. That is why it didn’t work for me personally. and there was a disconnect.

It looked like Star Wars, it had the Star Wars music. but not the verve, soul and energy. Was that in the OT because of Mark,Carrie and Harrison? The camaraderie and energy I mean. the fun of watching them interact.

But somehow people younger than me did have that relationship with the prequel. It gelled for them. they love Hayden, and Natalie and Ewan.

To me I love Lucas films, I love Star Wars so I watched and enjoyed them. to a far lesser degree than OT by a lot.

I find episode 1 to be slightly charming in an inept way, Lucas tried to make a kids movie, a disney movie with space taxes.

Episode II is good in places, but mostly falls flat its the worst of the prequels. And in Episode III Revenge of the Sith the last third is solid if I don’t dwell on how terrible the dialogue is or the overchoreographed lightsaber fight.

But other than Palpatine’s machinations, the plotting of these films and how stupid the Jedi are makes no sense. How dumb the galactic senate is. The politics make no sense. The Clone Wars make no sense and aren’t even shown on screen. Skywalker’s fall is not a slow seduction. he isn’t a good starpilot, a good friend or even a good man.

On the opposite spectrum Disney Star Wars gets the canon wrong, worldbuilding is non existent, but at least the Force Awakens was like the original flavor if imitation. That fun adventure film from 1977. If they had made sequels worth a darn other than one experimental stand-alone film and a colossal misfire on the last one, perhaps things would be different. But what worked for the Disney trilogy was aping the original and its also why it ultimately failed and fell flat. Not to mention how awful they handled the legacy characters.

The other direction was do something new and risky. Like Lucas midichlorians prequel 2.0 sequel. With Darth Maul as the big bad.

The Force Awakens being a pantomime remake of Star Wars worked, in the short term but failed the trilogy. The Last Jedi did its own thing, deconstructed the myth. and the Rise of Skywalker was a mistake course correcting by JJ.

I think Padme is sympathetic and engaging enough in TPM and Obi is in the other movies. And I think Padme is the main character of TPM.

How does it not make sense? And why should the clone wars be shown more than it is?

Considering he’s a pretty malicious villain, I don’t know why Anakin in his years of becoming a villain would ever be a straight forward heroic man. Similar with him wanting to kill Obi, if they were just “good friends” with nothing else to them. I still don’t really get what you’re serious issue with him being a pilot is.

If not a straight forward heroic man, then a relatively decent person, a “good friend,” if you will. Why? Because then the “tragedy” of his fall, as well as his eventual redemption, would be more emotional compelling. Or it least it would if George hadn’t made him domestic abuser and child murderer.

For all intents and purposes, I think he’s generally heroic at least half of his time in the trilogy. It’s not the focus, but I think it’s there. Still, by AOTC at least, I think his worst traits being built up make sense. In TPM he’s a very nice seeming heroic kid. In AOTC for the first half of it, he’s an in turmoil, angsty, sometimes whiny, impetuous and arrogant, kinda heroic teen. After that, he starts turning.

Can’t say I agree that any Star Wars movie is as bad as World War 2

The prequels. By quite a margin.

I have a lot of nostalgia for them, just because I was a kid when they came out. I didn’t care about the politics, and I think the fact that the movies are just stupid in some regard actually worked in their favor when it came to kids. Even watching them now, I feel very fond of this or that scene - you can make fun of the dumb ones, call out the memes that some of them spawned…despite all their issues, watching the prequels is fun.

The sequels, on the other hand…I really wonder if, in 20 years, people who saw them as kids are going to feel the same way about them. I could see TFA ‘holding up’, since there are a lot parallels to the original, but the other two…they’re not as quirky as the prequels, they don’t have the OT’s charme. They are, in some regards, painfully forgettable.
