This project looks very intresting!
Are you gonna make your own Dolby Atmos mix cause as far as ik, there’s only a 5.1 mix available.

The Goal: To take the official extended cut and remove (most) the fluff (Faked scenes, repeated scenes) and add back in uncensored & higher quality elements from the Theatrical Cut as well as additional fixes from the Spicediver Edit, while also keeping the charm of the original Theatrical Cut as a way to appeal to fans of this adaptation. No “cheesy close-ups removal” or Updated special effects.
Current Runtime: 2h 53min
Planned Sound Formats: Dolby Atmos 7.1, DTS-HD MA 5.1, & LPCM 2.0 Surround
Estimate Release: None, but sooner rather than later.
Essentially, my attempt at a “best of all worlds” edit of this film. This film is a personal favorite of mine and this will be my love letter. Currently I have a rough assembly done that I am QCing. I hope to finish it soon and I hope you guys look foward to it.

I will be using upmixing software to help with the Atmos track, It probably wont be fully featured but I wanted to do it for fun.

Oh this is an instant winner for me, love this film and always happy to read of new edits! Just about to re-watch the Alternative Edition Redux.
Interesting project, but I’m not familiar with it. I honestly thought this was the spice wars on Arrakis
Oh wow. This looks really interesting. The Dune film has always struck me as kind of an odd one within Lynch’s filmography (probably due to studio interference and the scale of the production). Curious to see what you make of it, given it took Villeneuve 2 films to adapt the story and this one tried to do it in one…
Is there any way of enhancing and inserting the recently discovered Alia scene? It’s so good I really would love to see it in a cut of the film but even by other deleted scene standards it’s badly preserved. I would love to see the two part movie Lynch intended to make.
this is incredibly interesting. i always wondered what could be possible if this film was given the final cut treatment lol

I have no plans to reinsert the deleted scenes. The current assembly I have has two scenes taken from them since they were used the Spicediver cut but they were for scenes that are already in the extended cut (Mapes’ scene with Jessica & Jamis’ death). I left them because the Mapes scene would’ve been extremely difficult to edit around and the deleted scene version only shows slightly more anyways and in the case of Jamis’ death It was actually uncensored compared the version in the extended cut, I did however cut out the entire tear sequence.

Current Internal Updates:
Name change from “The Final Cut” to “The Final Edit” to respect David’s wishes
Added dedicated “Final Edit” credits to the film
Fixed a mistake where an extended scene was left out (Extended scene of Stilgar giving Paul the thumper)
Trailer in early production, mostly just for hype building.

As a DUNE fan, having seen all known edits of the film, including the SpiceDiver edit that was available for a time on the Koch Blu ray set (some versions better than others), there will always be one true, “final edit”…the 186-minute alternate redux an anonymous fan did two or three years back, the one that edits all known footage legitimately shot by David Lynch. Do seek this out.

Nice! Got me pumped for the release. Haha!

You sure you don’t have a false memory? the “alternate redux” edit IS the Spicediver edit and only runs for 178min. The only 3-hour fan edit that exists is Michael Warren’s “The Complete Saga” edit but it’s quite poorly edited as it adds in every last scrap of footage which leads to looped footage and just a generally incomprehensible movie.

Spicediver’s edit did massively improve on what was there, but there a a few elements, like the overlong intro with the wild Reverend Mother, which drag it down from perfection.
Or as perfect as that broken thing of a movie that is 1984’s Dune can ever be…
Watching this, both the thread and the end result.
For seventeen years the renegade Pfhor scoutship jumped between the closely packed stars of the galactic core. And all over the ship, dancing through the wreckage of the Pfhor computer core, Durandal was laughing…
