Terminator (1984) 4K Upscale

Comparison images of an encode I’ve been working on. Using the MGM Bluray as a base, I upscaled it and applied the 4K Bluray color grading preserving HDR and DV. The upscale does not use any AI whatsoever.

Comparisons are labeled as follows:

  1. upscaled mgm bluray = standard bluray with no edits besides being scaled by 2x

  2. 4k bluray remux = 4k bluray with no edits

  3. encode = upscaled standard bluray with 4k color grading (HDR+DV)

    (screenshots are tonemapped for reference.)

I’m considering bumping the encode size another 10-20 GB but still unsure.
Any and all feedback is appreciated.

those screens look great! what settings did you use for the upscale?

Is this being matched to the original color timming of the 1984 release (such as the first blu-ray release), or does this still retain the modernized “teal and yellow” look of the remaster and 4K release?

Has someone synced the original color timing to the 4K anywhere?

This is matched to the 4k remaster as stated in my description. The reason being to retain DV/HDR as I personally think it looks good. I also want to match to the version you’re talking about but I’ve yet to find a copy.
