It’s not hated because he hates sand. It is because its romance dialogue and the Padme/Anakin relationship is creepy and unbelievable for people.
Perhaps Anakin’s awkwardness being a celibate monk is deliberate, it’s not like he is smooth with the ladies. He isn’t Han Solo.
He lives in a commune of other monks. Where attachment is forbidden. Growing up isolated away from the societal norms of growing up in a family and a regular citizen of the republic.
He had a mother, no father. Orphaned as a teenager. He has the bad father in Palpatine as his adviser and the good father in Obi-Wan, who does make mistakes and overlook things Anakin does.
It’s a damn weird angle to play if you’re writing a romance. You have this awkward monk but instead of playing into his conflict, he’s a total horndog. There’s a ton of charm to wring out of the pretty boy with a repressed crush. On the flip-side, Padme has no reason to be so chaste, because she doesn’t have a duty to be celibate. Why not have Anakin be the shy and reluctant one, and let Padme - who’s had a relatively normal life - be a little more cheeky and human. It would contrast against his Jedi training. I still laugh at the image of her in a damn leather corset telling him nothing can happen, lol.
