Vegas and 5.1 audio mixing

Is Vegas the best source for editing with a 5.1? I was thinking of fixing some of the problems with the new 5.1 mix on the Superman DVD but am not sure where to start. I got a copy of Vegas for X-Mas but haven't opened it yet as I am trying to figure out first if it will do multi track editing on a 5.1 mix with video.

Anyone use Vegas for such a feat?

MeBeJedi is very familiar with Vegas, but he doesn't come 'round these parts much anymore because of certain boneheads who don't know how to behave themselves. You can reach him at mebejedi AT sbcglobal DOT net, he's been very helpful to me with Vegas and DVD-lab stuff on a number of occasions.

I used to be very active on this forum. I’m not really anymore. Sometimes, people still want to get in touch with me about something, and that is great! If that describes you, please email me at [my username]ATgmailDOTcom.

Hi everybody. You’re all awesome. Keep up the good work.

Vegas is the best for this. I don't use the video component, but I do all my 5.1 mixes in it now. Gorgeous program.
I am fluent in over six million forms of procrastination.

Thanks ADM. So do you just use Vegas to monitor the video, but then export the Audio via Vegas and marry it up with the video later with another program?

"he doesn't come 'round these parts much anymore because of certain boneheads who don't know how to behave themselves."

True, but in this regard, it would seem this is the safest of all the forums here.

As to Vegas, I highly recommend this book: Vegas 5 Editing Workshop

It has become my video bible. Lots of great tricks and explanations, and it comes with a DVD full of cool audio and video software. Absolutely worth its weight in gold.

Speaking of Vegas, I just bought it last night, but after installation I couldn't get the program to open. The opening screen just freezes. I have a feeling this is due to an incompatibility with my 64-bit processor and OS.

Is anyone else running Vegas on a 64-bit system? Do they have a patch or a driver I can download?

I've e-mailed Sony tech support, but you know how that is. Just thought someone on the boards might know. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Vegas should work on a 64-bit system, because I run it on Windows XP x64 right now, without any additional drivers or patches, did you already try to re-install Vegas?

Yeah. I uninstalled it and deleted it from the registry keys, tried to reinstall it. Still didn't work.

That's what I have too. Windows XP x64. Works on yours, huh?

Do you have version 6? Maybe you should try the Version 5 demo?

Yeah, I installed it and it worked fine. Do you have the newest drivers installed for your hardware?

Newest drivers? Not sure. I thought I did. Maybe I don't. How do I update them?

And yes, MeBeJedi, I have version 6. If I use version 5, I'd have to bring version 6 back to the store. And I don't really want to go through that hassle.

"If I use version 5, I'd have to bring version 6 back to the store. "

Actually, I was thinking you could install V5 to see if that worked, and then install V6 over it. It was just to see if a different version worked at all.
