Why would they keep releasing transfers every several years?
Because they have been. The 1997 Special Editions in theaters and on VHS, the 2004 DVDs, the 2011 Blu-Rays, the 2020 4K Blu-Rays, and likely new 4K Blu-Rays in 2027 of the original theatrical versions.
