The Mandalorian and Grogu isn’t even out yet, and I can’t wait for ACBagel’s take on it xddd
We’ve finished book 4 and apparently that film was the best out of all Star Wars content so far (other than acolyte we’ve done EVERYTHING leading up to this). Lots of concern for baby yoda and when Boba finally made his appearance she thought he was going to be the villain which made the stand off more tense due to the Boba sniping scene in the previous movie.
I know it’s old rope by now but having him reveal his face here first at the end makes it so much more impactful, it hit wonderfully.
Yes, Book 4 truly feels like an “event” film. The buildup to Boba, having gotten to know him over the previous movies, makes it so much more exciting when they finally meet. And it was exciting in the show already, but in the new version, it’s next level. Meeting Ahsoka, Boba, involving Bo-katan, seeing Din for the first time… it feels like an Avengers movie having been built up from all its other little movies. So much payoff. Definitely some of the best Star Wars content.
Bad news is she is dying to watch more now and we only have Ahsoka and your book 5 I need to drag out!
My opinion (after watching everything with my wife last year similar to you). Watching Ahsoka after Book 4 works really well, because obviously Book 4 just introduced live action Ahsoka, and then you jump into her story. But also because, it makes the time that Grogu and Mando are separated even longer than Bagel already makes it, which I think, the longer the better.
The ending of 5 is kind of hype where you just want to jump right into 6, so I think watching Book 4, then Ahsoka, then continuing with Bagel’s movies 5 (and eventually 6) works best.
My preference for Ahsoka is the single movie Patterson cut. Like Bagel he puts a lot of effort in and does some special effects work on certain scenes, makes the whole thing fun, colorful and poppy. My wife had not even watched Rebels, and she thought Ahsoka (Patterson cut) was a ton of fun.

Great minds think alike! Plan was always to do Ahsoka after book 4 then 5, 6, thought I actually prefer DerekWhim’s the Phantom Jedi for that series. Though a little longer, it most notably includes the stormtrooper battle on entering the temple during the end (though heavily cut because watching them deflect shots for a few minutes was just awkwardly done). I did use Patterson’s second boba edit prior to acbagel taking it on which was a good edit.
My partner liked Rebels more than I did so am optimistic for that showing! I wish there was an edit which included all of the zombie content without being a +3hr edit though, best part of the series for me (well, after Ani) and the way things appear I’ll never see it again haha
Tempted to show her an acolyte edit after Ahsoka if we are anticipating book 6 coming out in some time to stall a bit longer, it’s the only thing I hadn’t shown her because I didn’t really want that to lead with that for the franchise
I watched movies 1 through 4, and I loved movies 1 and 4. I also enjoyed 2 and 3, although I think they have things that could be improved. But overall, I enjoyed all four movies, mainly because you cut out many bad scenes from the Boba Fett series, saved the scene of Mando removing his helmet for the fourth movie, and gave Luke the enhanced face.
My feedback:
Movie 1:
1h42min1sec-1h42min20sec: The music got a little jumbled in this section, in the transition between each song. Personally, I think it felt a little strange.
1h46m30s (Trash can scene): I think there was too much back and forth between the present-day scenes and the scenes of Mando as a child. I understand you wanted to make a connection between the events, but perhaps it would have been better if there were fewer scene cuts, so that the comparison between current and past events would be more subtle.
1h58m04s: At this point, there’s a flashback scene with a white fade-out, differentiating it from the previous flashback scenes, which didn’t have fade-outs. This made me think this was Mando’s last past scene, but there are other past scenes after that, and then at 1h58m54s there’s the last flashback, which also has a fade-out. I think it would be better if the fade-out at 1h58m04s were removed.
2h00m03s: Personally, I thought the Grief Carga scene that starts at this point felt a bit “thrown in.” I don’t know if it’s because of the music, as it’s very sudden and breaks the flow of Mando’s previous scene a bit, but in any case, I found the scene strange here. Perhaps if it were placed at an earlier point, I don’t know, but maybe it could feel more natural within the film’s flow. In my personal opinion, I think it would be better if Mando’s final sequence in the film followed directly, without that Grief scene in the middle, as it would flow more naturally and give a better “feel” of conclusion.
2nd film:
10min14sec: I found the transition between the two scenes very abrupt and strange. The first scene, showing Boba looking at the “dog,” doesn’t even have a purpose. Wouldn’t it be better to cut it?
I think it would be better if some of Temuera’s reactions and expressions up to the train scene could be cut. From the train scene onwards, I think Temuera is good as Boba Fett, but before that, he definitely doesn’t give the impression that he’s the man behind the helmet; his acting is still bad in many parts, even with the edits you made.
I thought the farmers’ plot, which is interspersed with Boba Fett’s plot at the beginning, dragged on too much in the film. In the original episode, this story works better within the context of the empire’s attack. Without this part, the plot development loses momentum, and at least for me, It becomes dull. Perhaps if the beginning of the film had focused only on Boba Fett, and over time we had seen how Boba’s part relates to Mando’s, this edit would have been more objective;
I think 1h19m04s could be combined into 1h21m14s. There are many scene cuts between Mando and Boba in this edit (this sequence is an example), making it very choppy and interrupting the narrative flow quite a little;
In my opinion, the music at the end of the film didn’t fit. Gideon’s appearance emerging alive from the ship was supposed to have an impact, and the music took away that impact (my sister, who was watching with me, even thought the music made the ending funny). Personally, I think a darker and quieter piece of music would have been better in this part. And the scene with Boba and the Fennec felt very dropped in the ending. For me, it would make more sense to end Boba’s arc in this film with him creating a real and deeper connection with Mando. Otherwise, what’s the point of this film “interrupting” Mando’s story with Boba’s arc if it doesn’t have a purpose within that story? There needs to be something “bigger” than simply the fact that the two of them had an encounter with Fennec on a job. Perhaps it would be good to include a short AI conversation between Boba and Fennec, with him asking who did that to her, and her mentioning that a Mandalorian was involved, and Boba saying that it’s rare to find a Mandalorian in those lands, and her asking if Boba thinks Mando might be using his armor, and Boba saying something like “tell me more about this Mandalorian” or something like that, hinting at their future encounter (just sketching an idea here, it could be another dialogue. I just want to say that it would be good to link them in a more substantial way).
3rd film:
I think it would be good if, when Boba appears for the first time in the film, they showed the planet Tatooine beforehand, and if possible, Boba’s spaceship in a panoramic shot. I think that could give a better sense of a cinematic film;
22m43s: The line “next time don’t touch my buttons” felt a bit out of character;
I thought the part where Grogu is in the classroom didn’t sound very “Star Wars”. Personally, I think it would be good to cut as much of it as possible, even because it’s not essential to the narrative;
The scene of the New Republic interrogating Greef Karga only makes the New Republic look dumb, besides adding nothing to the story;
At 1h24m55s, Boba appears out of nowhere. Is there a possibility of putting a panoramic shot before he appears, showing the mountains where he is?;
1h32m12s: The scene of Boba’s ship felt very out of place, as it simply appears flying in the vacuum of space and not following the Razor Crest. Besides, we already know that Boba is after Mando. Personally, I think it would be better to remove this scene, it seems somewhat unnecessary;
The end of the film has many scene cuts: Mando, then Gideon, then Mando, then Bo Katan, then Boba, then Mando and then Gideon again, all within a five-minute span. I found it somewhat unnecessary and I think it would flow better if it were possible to connect Gideon’s scenes with each other, as well as Mando’s scenes.
4th film:
The only line I find a little cheesy is Dr. Pershing’s, when he says that the dark troopers eliminated the troopers’ only weakness, which was the human factor. He says this as if it were something brilliant and revolutionary, even though the separatists used robots throughout an entire trilogy lol. But of course, this is a very personal opinion of mine. I know that keeping or removing this line doesn’t change anything in this edit, which turned out excellent.

In general, I thought the fourth film worked very well as a real movie, but in the first three edits, I didn’t feel that way. Since you’re changing the story format from a series to a movie, I felt a bit of a lack of some connecting elements between the events that occur within these films, as well as a beginning, middle, and end structure. Sometimes, it seems like there are isolated plot lines that begin and end in the middle of the film, making it somewhat obvious that they are episodes of the series inserted there, but that they are out of place within the overall context of the story.
Below I will brainstorm some ideas about more structural changes that the films could have. But, to be clear, these are just suggestions. I know that some things I describe in the text below would be drastic changes to your edits, and it’s okay if you ignore them. I just thought it was relevant to show that there might be points of view that you could consider for your films.
For example, in the first edit, I felt that the mercenaries’ plot appears somewhat out of nowhere. It’s as if it were an episode that begins and ends within the film, as this arc doesn’t seem to be integrated into the central plot. Perhaps it would be necessary, at some point early on, to have Mando receive a voice message on his ship from Ranzar Malk or someone from the mercenary group, suggesting that the old man has a job for him or something like that, and Mando ignores it, only accepting the offer when Greef Carga suggests the job to him. This would show that, for Mando, it would be unthinkable to reunite with those mercenaries before meeting Grogu, as it’s a part of his life he left behind. But, upon meeting Grogu, this confuses him, making him reevaluate his entire life, to the point of reconsidering past choices and accepting offers he wouldn’t have accepted before. In this way, after participating in the work with the mercenaries and seeing that he definitely doesn’t want that kind of life anymore, he would feel that he needs Grogu with him and thus return to get him. I think it wouldn’t be strange for Mando to receive that message from Malk at the beginning of the film, given that he already has a past with this group of mercenaries.
The third film was the one I felt most lacked a clear beginning, middle, and end structure. In the end, it gave me the impression of being a collection of episodes glued together, as I couldn’t perceive a clear and central narrative that defined this edit.
Regarding the second film, I think it would have been better if it had focused on Boba Fett’s storyline. I say this because its central plot is Boba’s search for his armor. Boba spends a good part of the film looking for it, but when the end comes, the focus shifts completely to Mando’s story with Grogu. As the edit ends this way, to me, Boba Fett’s plot felt a little awkward, as if it were “getting in the way” of the continuation of Mando and Grogu’s story that began in the previous film. Of course, in the third film, we will see Mando get Boba’s armor and this will explain Boba’s role in the story, but this won’t help the overall experience of the second edit, which will still seem a little purposeless on its own. The feeling I had when I finished the second edit was, “Okay, seeing the story edited this way, I can’t see why I should care about Boba Fett at this point, since he’s looking for his armor and that has nothing to do with the story we’re following with Mando.”
And like, the ending of the second movie is excellent, but I didn’t feel there was adequate build-up to that ending, because we deal mostly with Boba in the rest of the edit, something that kills some of the hype for Mando’s confrontation with Gideon. Ultimately, we have a plot with a beginning and middle focused on Boba, but without an ending that answers the question raised at the beginning of the film (i.e., where is Boba’s armor); and an ending for Mando and Grogu, without a beginning and middle focused on the two of them.
Thematically, I think Marshall’s storyline would be an excellent ending for the second film, because that way, the main point raised by the second film would finally be answered, and we would know who ultimately had his armor, and the story would have a satisfying conclusion. After all, since Boba’s armor would end up with Mando, this would definitively link their paths and make us understand why Boba’s story is being told in the middle of Mando’s films. And the plot of the persecution Mando is suffering for having “stolen” Grogu in the first film could be merged into the third film, with the current ending of the second film (Moff Gideon going after Grogu and Mando’s confrontation with Gideon) being transferred to the end of the third film. I know that if this happened, there would be several contradictions, but I think that if there were some editing, it could work (the detail on Mando’s shoulder pad would disappear and reappear, for example, but it’s such a small detail that almost no one would notice, I believe).
Not sure if this has ever been brought up, but the color banding in a few scenes is pretty distracting. It’s pretty much only in darker scenes like when they’re hunting Fennec Shand in book 2. I wonder if it would be possible for Acabel to re-encode the edit using h265 10 bit settings as that really helps to eliminate color banding.

This is my only issue with the edit too. I’m pretty sure it’s a simple setting change either on the video tracks or at encoding, to un-crush the blacks.

I will third this. I have never said anything because I didn’t want to be the negative one pointing out something in an otherwise fantastic fan-edit. It is the only thing keeping this from being my go-to version.
We’ve finished book 4 and apparently that film was the best out of all Star Wars content so far (other than acolyte we’ve done EVERYTHING leading up to this). Bad news is she is dying to watch more now and we only have Ahsoka and your book 5 I need to drag out!
Take as long as you need but how are we looking on the next release? Can’t tell who is more excited to be honest
Haha awesome! Sound like a good time! Would love to know what she thinks of Book 5 when you get to it 😃
Book 6 is still in the second pass of the technical review stage. This one is very very detailed. I’ve been logging it on my YT channel, but you’ll see there it’s just slow, monotonous work. Like making a new 3-second transition for Boba’s Palace can sometimes take 45 minutes of work… and with my 4th baby coming in a month, 45 minutes is very valuable time haha. I’m working every free chance I get though! It’s coming along piece by piece.
Thanks, Sirius. I appreciate all the time it took to sort through and write out so many notes! The technical pointers are helpful, I’ll have to go back through each to see what exactly you’re noticing there. It seems like the overall critique is that most of the films don’t necessarily “feel” like a traditional movie feels. That, I will fully acknowledge as true. Some of them do feel like that more than others, as you mentioned, but to me it “feels” more like a consistent conglomeration of related episodes. I think TV to movie edits “feel” more like movies the more you end up cutting. One of my main goals was to cut as little as possible to preserve the overall pacing and integrity of the main storyline. In doing so, I retain a lot of the slower “non-movie” feeling scenes and such. Each film does have it’s own consistent 3-Act structure with character arcs and stories in place, but as you experienced, some films more “significant” than others. I think that’s something that I personally don’t see as a problem, as my goal wasn’t to create perfect traditional movie experiences, but to tell the best story possible in 2-3 hour chunks.
Some of the suggestions there like, “Perhaps it would be good to include a short AI conversation between Boba and Fennec” are cool ideas, but not really feasible at the moment. Maybe in a few more years the tech will be there to pull this off, but as of now even the most professional efforts possible will still scream “This is AI!” and look very out of place. I’m already pushing the limits to the max with the voicelines and a few small AI VFX shots.
I would be interested to see what you think about Book 5 as well if you ever get the chance!

Yes, this has been discussed before (can’t remember what page of this thread though). Unfortunately, it’s not just a simple “re-encode with some altered settings” situation. I don’t have the original project files anymore. Those were on a hard drive long since dead, but I did have fully rendered edits saved of the films. So the vast majorities of revisions (like, the last 3+ years of work) I have done on earlier films are not done by working on original source files, but onto already rendered versions of my older films (the exported ones with the borked settings). That is to say, the only way to “fix” the dark scenes like the Fennec night scene and sections of the mercenaries in Book 1 would be to 100% remake it from scratch. I tried AI restoration a year or two ago and it didn’t seem to help at all. Maybe some new tech will help alleviate it, but as of now, I wouldn’t have any other choice but to compeltely remake all of that and you’re looking at a loooooot of hours to do that, and no guarantee I could get it exactly how it appears now again (but with fixed coloration).

Hello! I have some comments about Book 2. Firstly, I want to say that the edit is fantastic, and what I enjoyed most is how you created a real sense of time passing for both Boba Fett and Mando by switching between their storylines. With that said, I do have some feedback. Take it with a grain of salt though. I’m an avid content consumer and I write occasionally, but I’m definitely not a film editor.
Episode 5 is edited very well, but Episode 4 feels like it could be strengthened, mainly around character motivation and narrative clarity. For example, it’s not clear why Mando or Cara Dune go to the krill farmers’ village. Because her relationship with Mando is unclear, it feels a bit awkward when Mando later returns and recruits her to fight on Nevarro.
I think this could be solved by making it clearer that Mando is recruiting Cara Dune to help protect the village. But for that to land, the audience needs to understand why the village needs protection. To support that, I think some scenes should be added back in.
I would start the episode the same way the original Episode 4 begins: by showing the village being attacked. Then you could switch to your original sequence of Mando arriving and working on his ship (that part of your edit is great). However, without the attack scene, it’s unclear why the two farmers seek Mando’s help. Adding the attack back in establishes their motivation immediately.
After that, you can keep your sequence of Mando arriving at the village, settling in, and talking to the widow. But I would also restore part of the training montage, specifically the moment where Mando teaches the villagers how to shoot. This accomplishes two things:
Once that foundation is in place, the cut to the cantina recruitment scene will feel more natural. Right now, the switch feels abrupt because we don’t fully understand why Mando needs Cara Dune’s help. If the villagers’ situation is clearer, then Mando’s decision to recruit her becomes more logical. It also reinforces that he respects her as a capable fighter. Optionally, you could include a bit more of Cara Dune training the villagers with the sticks, but that may not be necessary since the bounty hunter scene already establishes her competence.
As for Boba Fett’s storyline, the cuts are very strong. The only thing I would suggest is adding back more of the conversations between Fennec and Boba. Star Wars shines when the audience is invested in the characters, and right now it’s not entirely clear why someone like Fennec, an assassin, chooses to stay with Boba. For example, there’s a great moment in your edit where Fennec tells Boba the Tuskens made him soft, and he replies that they made him stronger because “you can only get so far without a tribe.” Expanding their interactions would make that emotional beat land harder and give their partnership more depth. Right now their relationship feels a bit superficial, and a few restored scenes could really strengthen it.
I would be interested to see what you think about Book 5 as well if you ever get the chance!
Yes, I really want to watch the other books you’ve done. I’m just waiting for them to be subtitled, because English isn’t my first language, and I end up being a bit lost without the subtitles (by the way, a huge thank you to G00b for making the subtitles. Without them I would have understood very little of the films ^^')

I’m glad I could help you mate! No promises but book 5 subs should be ready sooner rather then later 😃 We’ll see how my spare time plays out 😉
No problem, if you can add the subtitles, great, but if not, that’s fine too. As I said, I’m grateful that you added the subtitles in the last books because I usually watch fan edits without subtitles, and it’s harder to understand. But I fully understand that it takes time and it’s hard work. And I would like to thank Acbagel and you for the work you do, because it’s nice to watch something good to distract ourselves from the problems of everyday life, it’s a form of escapism, and this kind of thing help a lot sometimes. Really, really thank you guys
Dear friends, thank you for your passion and hard work

Thanks for the review! Regarding the scenes where you felt there should be more character building with Boba and Fennec, was there something you remembered from the D+ version that I did not include in mine? I thought I tried to utilize any and every conversation where there was any semblance of character building there, so let me know which one I missed.

I told you it would be sooner! 😉
After seeing the Mando and Grogu trailer again it’s been getting me more excited for this edit more than their own movie! Wonder how they will approach a movie in comparison to these as I’m expecting an awful lot of filler
Would love to take a look at this in preperation for the upcoming movie! As i don’t have enough time to watch the entire show again 😃
I watched the fifth movie. I didn’t like it ^^'. I feel kind of bad doing reviews of your project because it seems like I only criticize, but I want you to know that I really enjoy watching these edits. And I don’t want to trash anything, I’m just expressing what I really felt while watching the movie.
One of the things that bothered me is that I didn’t understand Bo Katan’s role in the story. She doesn’t have a clear motivation. She seemed super interested in the darksaber in the previous movie, and in this one she doesn’t even care about it. At one point she doesn’t seem to care about Din, the next she joins him on a journey as if they were best friends. She simply goes with the flow and accepts everything the story imposes on her. She joins Din’s group at the end of the movie without even thinking it through. Anyway, I found her arc very strange. I’d like to clearly understand what she feels, even to know how these events affect her. And since she’s an essential part of the film, taking on the role of co-protagonist, practically replacing Grogu, that contributed to me not enjoying the movie, because I couldn’t connect with her character as I think I should have.
Another point that I felt weakened the narrative was the enemy, who is very pointless. If he played a more important role within Din’s arc, or even Bo Katan’s arc, I think I would have liked him more in the plot. I don’t know, any more emotional reason that connected the villain to the main plot of the Mandalorians in the film would be more relevant than him wanting to attack a planet because one of his henchmen wanted to drink at a bar and couldn’t, because now it’s a school lol. As it is, he just seems like a side quest villain in Grief Carga’s story.
Despite everything, I thought you edited the film very well, with the scenes flowing naturally. I liked the fact that you cut Grogu out of the scenes, because that way we get to see Din going on with his life without him during an entire movie, which is cool (and, again, thanks to G00b for the subtitles, really appreciated).
I think you’ve hit the nail on the head for one of the biggest most glaring problems to season 3 of the Mandalorian in general! They just show Bo-Katan all mopey bc everything went wrong. Then for some reason it’s save din and go along with the journey and become the main protagonist.
I read AcBagels edit as her mocking din for his religion, but when actual chaos stikes, she’s going back to save him as a repayment for his previous help to her. She then gets swept up in everything as her home is destroyed and she’s obviously rethinking things after a deeply spiritual moment. She then sees opportunity to take back Mandalore (her ultimate goal) and stikes with Din.
^ some od this is just me making it up to fill in the blanks… But I like that in TWoM you can atleast do this. Rather then in real s3 when Bo just goes along bc Baby Yoda is cute or something 🤷♂️.
Rewarch Carson Teva’s parts of the movie! The main connection to the wider story is that Moff Giddeon is pulling the strings of the pirates and using them to gain territory in the outer rim and incognito get revenge.
I never really picked up on that detail until I subbed the movie.
But essentially, this movie is about building armies and forces. The Mandalorian, the new republic, the pirates and the Imperial Remnent.
You’re absolutely write though, Gorian Shard is just like the forgettable mini-boss but I suppose the story is less about the villain and more about building forces.
🫡 I’m glad I could help!

Hmm, I hadn’t noticed that part, thanks for pointing it out. It’s cool to see that the pirates are connected to the main plot in some way
Wow! Sounds amazing!
Hey Acbagel, been following this project for quite awhile now. I remember speaking to you when the Mandalorian film was first annouced and how it may affect this project and at the time it seems like something far off on the horizon. However, time flies and now it is almost here.
Do you think you may release the final book prior to the new film’s release or with it so close, will you use a wait and see approach and adapt the final book off of what we are shown in the film? Also, do you potentially see yourself using footage from the new film for a Book 7 or to pad out the other books potentially? I look forward to seeing the “final” book when it is ready; I know it will be something special!
Hey, everyone! Thanks for your patience. Acbagel baby #4 made “another happy landing” a few days ago, so you can imagine things are very busy in the home! After a little paternity leave I will finish Book 6.

It really does fly! I can’t believe we’re 6 weeks away from a Star Wars film in theaters. It doesn’t really feel like it… But my plan is to release Book 6 before that film comes out, and then if the movie inspires me in some way or has footage I can use elsewhere, then I will re-release whichever of the previous edits gets the new footage. But that won’t happen until it releases in 4k on blu-ray etc later in the year. And then of course, I will be making a Book 7 based on the film at that time too. Blessings to you all!

Woohoo! Congratulations on Acbagel baby #4, raising a little army! Me and wife stopped at two!
Terrific news about releasing Book 6 before the movie, I have been waiting on all 6 Books to be completed and I will watch them just before seeing Mando and Grogu in cinemas. So on that note do you mind DMing me the current download link for the existing Books.
And so the clan gets larger! Congratulations on your 4th little one, hope there’s enough Beskar left for you all.
Great to hear it will be out before the cinema release as have been holding off the book 5 watch to watch them closer together down the road, best of luck and wishing the best to the both of you
