Star Wars Rebels Recut - A Fanedit TV Series — Page 34

I’d suspect it’s just the AI doing its thing. My original source is the bluray release 😃.

In my recolor, I do bump up the contrast a touch. With this visual change, and knowing that the AI upscaling processes is not a one for one, I think that explains the variance.

Your screenshot is also a weird resolution 2300x1292 which is likely messing with the image quality 😃. The actual resolution of the 4K release is 3840x2160,16:9 aspect ratio.

RELEASED S02E01 - The Siege of Lothal V4.3

Downloads

  • 4K recolor: available
  • 1080p recolor: available
  • 1080p: available
  • Subtitles: available

Changes

  • Episode rebuilt from scratch
  • Changed intro text content
  • Extended Intro text time
  • Cut most of the opening fight (it was needless action with too many goofy moments)
  • Cut Ezra and Hera reacting to Sabine docking with the Ghost to keep the pace of the opening moving forward.
  • Cut the scene with Tua, Kallus and Vader.
    • Although an awesome scene for Vader, this content is covered in the intro text AND characterizes Kallus as okay with murder of Imps (which the s1 finale showed him shocked at this AND this makes him much easier redeemed later on).
  • Replaced Old Jho’s dialogue with the Ithoese sfx from KoTOR to match previous episodes.
  • Cut from Kallus sending a probe after Tua, until the transport ship taking off to keep the pacing moving
  • Cut Ezra explaining his plan (not because it was a bad plan but because ON YOUR WAY to the mission is NOT the time to be making a plan when you have ample time to sort that out in safety).
  • Cut Ezra wanting the list to help the Rebels to make his pursuit here feel more noble and Jedi-esk. (instead of undercut with a joke)
  • Cut “It’s gotten worse” from Ezra… “I never seen so many star destroyers here” pretty much says the same thing. Don’t need the repeat
  • Deaged Darth Vader’s voice
  • Cut Sabine and Ezra talking about leaving for good (for pacing).
  • Cut Kanan “does anyone ever say yes to that question?” in response to being called crazy by Hera.
  • Cut Zeb SCREAMING IN THE MIDDLE OF AN IMP BASE (WHAT!?)
  • Cut TO BE CONTINUED and end credits
  • Cut establishing shot to blend the two episodes together seamlessly
  • Cut repeated shot, shot of Kanan and title card for flow
  • Cut “you know what I do in hopeless situations” “Yeah! Blow stuff up!” As i didn’t like this moment of levity here.
  • Cut “If that doesn’t kill him, what will?” so now Kanan just says “Run!”
  • Cut Kanan and Ezra’s negative reaction to Lando being hinted at
  • Cut Kanan “There’s prisoners of the Empire now” nope sorry buddy, Tarkin town is burnt down and the inhabitance are ALL DEAD.
  • Cut Tarkin town having survivors
  • Cut “sound like a lousy Lando plan” for Sabine to then get insulted…
  • Cut “sounds like a lousy Sabine plan”
  • Cut Hera thanking Lando, it’s just the wrong mood for the current scene.
  • Cut the scene where Kallus explains there’s a tracking device. Just like Episode 4, there escape being too easy should be a clue that Vader is on his way.
  • Cut Ezra not knowing what a transmitter is.
  • Trimmed Kanan’s response so it makes sense with the new cuts it’s not “The Empire tracked us back to the fleet!”
  • Mixed in the Ian McDermid dub to the end sequence
  • Cut Palpatine not knowing if Kenobi was alive

I Need Help to Improve the Episode!

If anyone has a 5.1 sound copy of the Amazon release of S02E01 - The Siege of Lothal. Can you send me a PM?

I’ve got something that’s passable but if I can get a 5.1 sound copy of Ian McDermid’s performance I can make it perfect!

Hi g00b,
I hope you’re doing well! I wanted to ask which source files you’re using for the project. I compared your 4K episode with the original 1080p Blu‑ray release, and I noticed that quite a few visual details seem to be missing in your version.

Here’s a comparison for reference (for example, the basket, the alien’s face, and the vases on the right):

Your cut (4K):
https://ibb.co/RpBnVMGt

Blu‑ray (1080p):
https://ibb.co/ZRxj1wM6

I’m curious whether this difference comes from the upscaling process or from the quality of the source material you’re working with. Please don’t take this as criticism - I really enjoy your project. I just recently rewatched the original version, so the contrast stood out when I started watching your cuts.

If the difference is due to the source material, I’d be more than happy to help by providing higher‑quality files, of course only if you would find that useful 😃

I’ve double checked this again, the reduced visual details is from the upscaling process. In some instances it’ll remove detail (as it assumes it’s grain and noise) but in other instances it makes the image much sharper and more defined. These visual details are present in my 1080p recolor and 1080p versions of the edit (which is precisely why I include multiple versions).

Upscaling is not a perfect process and for this instance, this scene reduces some details in the 4K upscale but in others it makes the image look MUCH better. If this bothers you personally, I’d recommend viewing the 1080p recolor version instead 😃

Interesting! Out of curiosity: is it possible to teach the AI what works and what doesn’t?

In other words: Can you tell the AI that in this particular scene there is noe grain and noise, and then it will try the upscaling again with another result? (I am NOT asking you to do these with every scene, I just wonder if it’s possible! 😄 )

Faneditors - I salute you.

I’m sure it would be (with a none mainstream upscaller) but I’m just using Topaz AI to upscale, using the Gia model as its optimised for 3D (and 2D) animation.

Unfortunately that kind of AI upscale is out of my skillset and usually requires some good coding knowledge and lots of dedicated time to train the AI.

That being said, if anyone was able to do a better job at upscaling my series then I did, I would gladly host those versions instead 😃.

RELEASED S04E01 - The New Mandalore V4.1

Downloads

  • 4K recolor: Needs Upscale
  • 1080p recolor: available
  • 1080p: available
  • Subtitles: available

Changes

  • Changed intro text.
  • Retimed intro text.
  • Added Mando’a! (Thanks Shoya and Acbagel)
  • Removed Tristan from the background of 12 different shots that couldn’t be cut or clipped.
    • He’s now been recolored into a different Blue Mandalorian so he no longer pulls attention being the only Wren on the mission to destroy the Dutchess.
  • Updated Ursa Removal VFX
  • Added in some more ceremony shots (at the end) as this sequence felt a bit TOO quick

Line changes:
“Ibic gaanayl jehavey’ir gar. Gar buir kar’tayli a nu lise re’jorhaa’ir gar. Tsad Droten ara’novo an naumiite. Kaysh ke’gyci ni tratur gar. Ni suvari kaysh slana jii.” (This was a trap set to lure you in. Your mother received this intel but couldn’t get word to you. The Empire was jamming all transmissions. She sent me ahead to reinforce you. I understand she’s on her way.) - Bo-Katan
“Vor entye.” (I thank you.) - Sabine Wren (She used to say “Who are you?” but that’s stupid, Sabine should know!)
“Ni ne’cuy ner vod.” (I am not my sister.) - Bo-Katan
“I’m not the leader you seek.” - Bo-Katan to “I’m no Mandalore.”

“Ni hiibi t’ad bat payt.” (I’ll take the two on the left.) - Rau
“Ni gana t’ad bat staabi. Shuk!” (I got the two on the right. Now!) - Bo-Katan

“Gar Mando’ad! Tion’jor gar gotal’u ibic shu’shuk?!” (You’re a Mandalorian! Why would you create such an abomination!?) - Bo-Katan

“Sabine Wren, mhi kar’tayli gar gotal’u ibac besbe’trayc!” (Sabine Wren, we know you built that weapon!) - Mando 1
“Gar aruetii bah Manda’yaim!” (You’re a traitor to Mandalore!) - Mando 2

Mando 1 is me.
Mando 2 is Shoya.

My rework of the Mandalorian focused arks is complete! (Well, pending an upscale). Very happy to have this finalized as now my series is VERY compatible with The Way of Mandalore AND I’ve gotten to expand on an idea originally in the series (using Mando’a). It also continues my goal of making the series feel more “alien” through different languages! 😄

Hi guys, I’m new to the forum. I’d like to see Rebels recut because I’d like to see it the right way by eliminating a lot of unnecessary scenes. As a child, I’d like to know what I should do to see it or download it. There’s no link. I hope someone can answer me. Thanks.

RELEASED S02E07 - The Purrgil V4.1

Downloads

  • 4K recolor: Needs Upscale
  • 1080p recolor: available
  • 1080p: available
  • Subtitles: available

Changes

  • Rewrote introduction text.
  • Extended introduction text timing.
  • Recut episode from scratch.
  • Cut shot of Hera wiping the windscreen for continuity.
  • Cut Hera and Sabine power level exposition because the intro text covers this.
  • Cut the crew talking about the mission, the intro text covers this exposition.
  • Shortened Ezra hearing the Purrgil as it drags.
    • Now he hears the noise, Zeb gets his gag, he hears the noise again but it’s getting louder, then the purrgil hit the ship.
  • Cut some needless Kanan and Hera bickering about the Purrgil.
  • Cut Zeb wanting to kill the Purrgil after Kanan gives the order not to.
  • Cut Sabine saying the TIEs are modified and Kanan saying they’re acting Imperial (it was just weird).
  • Rewrote Hera’s instructions to the Crew to check their cabins.
    • it makes NO SENSE that ONLY NOW she’d tell them to make sure all power is off. This would have been done AGES ago.
    • Now she’s asking them to scrounge around to find extra sources of power because they’re all desperate.
  • Cut cut to black.
  • Cut surrounding shots for flow.
  • Made a Rodian not speak basic.
  • Changed Yushyn’s voice to something more alien.
  • Cut the show really trying to milk Sabine repainting Kanan’s helmet. The bit REALLY wasn’t funny enough for that to be enjoyable.
  • Shortened the Ezra not paying attention joke. Now, Sabine just tells him to jump!
  • Removed Ezra “whoa!”
    • I think this moment is much more powerful if Ezra doesn’t say anything.
  • Cut Zeb “Next time, let’s plan on the plan changing.”
  • Cut some of Kanan’s line to keep him more direct “I need more cover fire!”
  • Cut a few shots so Ezra runs straight for the gun.
  • Cut cut to black.
  • Cut surrounding shots for flow.
  • Cut “I can’t believe we lost to this guy” and his response to Kanan.

Ive made a trailer for Twilight of the Apprentice to better show off my work on that episode. It’s pretty much a 1 for 1 remake of the KoTOR2 trailer.

Hi g00b,

Sorry for the late reply! I compared the video quality between your 1080p version and the original 1080p Blu‑ray, and there’s still a noticeable difference.

Your cut (1080p):
https://ibb.co/cKLyHTJX

Blu‑ray (1080p):
https://ibb.co/xtk157D0

Comparison (enlarged section):
https://ibb.co/7tj3g85z

It doesn’t look like an upscale issue — it seems more like compression. The original two files for Spark of the Rebellion parts 1 and 2 are over 8GB combined, while your version is about 1GB, so some quality loss seems inevitable 😄

Again, sorry for the nitpicking. I really love your edits — I’m just a huge video‑quality nerd 😄

Well, that’s very interesting! I can definitely see the difference. My premire settings must be slightly off. Do you know if the quality difference is consistent across episodes? Or is it just Spark of Rebellion?

Checking back with my RIPS they seem to be of the same quality as your reference (which is what I’d expect given they’re the same source!). I suspect there might have been some quality dips particularly for the first episode because of how many times I’ve edited it… (I can’t tell you how many project files I’ve lost for that episode…) Maybe I’ll rebuild it to boost it’s quality. But I’ll focus on other episodes first. I don’t think there’s as much discrepancy in quality at least past season 1.

I’ve just checked the most recent release, S02E07 – The Purrgil V4.1, and it does look better — but only a little.

Your cut (1080p):
https://ibb.co/TMhVZ3RC

Blu‑ray (1080p):
https://ibb.co/rGhnW0jQ

Comparison (enlarged section):
https://ibb.co/fdxCbc3y

The difference isn’t noticeable on flat or simple areas, but a lot of fine detail seems to be missing — for example, look at Zeb’s beard. There’s also some pixelation around the edges of certain objects, especially character faces. That effect becomes even more visible during fast motion, which is hard to capture in still frames.

I remember watching your edit and feeling for a long time that something was off. At first I blamed the color correction and figured I just needed to get used to it. But it kept itching at my brain 😄 so I finally compared it to the source material… and now I can’t unsee it 😛

Very interesting (although your links of the blu-ray and the comparison I think are the wrong way around). I’d be interested in what you think of how my season 4 movies look.

It looks to me that the compression is losing the detail of the grain of Rebels (which is why we’re getting some softer details) but with my movies, I push the grain further AND upscale. I’m curious to see if you can find similar visual quality issues there! 😄

Yeah, sorry, I messed up the links 😛

I hadn’t seen your movie edits before, so I made a comparison - and ummmm… I think it’s actually even worse than the episodes for some reason.

Your cut (1080p):
https://ibb.co/MxQ1Vb4V

Blu‑ray (1080p):
https://ibb.co/DPshmjMR

Comparison (enlarged section):
https://ibb.co/jPvbvszH

As before, a lot of detail is missing, especially in the background. But this time the biggest issues are with dark surfaces. In the comparison you can see heavy pixelation on darker areas (Ezra’s back, the shelf/wall edge near the stormtrooper helmet, the area around Ezra’s nose, etc.).

I also noticed that because of the letterboxes, the top and bottom of the frame are cropped, (which made presenting this comparison a bit harder than with the episodes 😛) I’m assuming that was an artistic choice, right?

Yes, the different aspect ratio was an artistic choice. Reframed every shot by hand to make it all look good 🤪.

RELEASED S02E08 - Rebels of Ryloth V4.1

Downloads

  • 4K recolor: Needs Upscale
  • 1080p recolor: available
  • 1080p: available
  • Subtitles: available

Changes

  • Rewrote introduction text.
  • Retimed intro text
  • Recut entire episode
  • Cut some shots of Zeb completing a cargo transfer.
  • Cut some shots of phoenix two to keep the flow of the action rolling.
  • Cut the previous discussion about the mission with Sato
  • Added a new Hera line to better give context to the opening sequence.
    • “We’ve delivered the fuel. What’s our next mission?”
  • Cut “What’s wrong with Ryloth?” from Ezra
    • It was annoying and never got a response.
  • Cut Hera calling Cham her father right away.
  • Cut the show milking Kanan being nervous, now it’s just a small exchange.
  • Cut Cham acknowledging Kanan as a Jedi
    • Yes, he knows of the Jedi, he fought with them but I don’t like how Rebels seems to parade around that Kanan IS a Jedi. I think it’s more effective for Kanan to be awkward here.
  • Cut Sabine OVER explaining Cham. Now she just cuts right to the chase.
  • Cut Cham’s reasoning for objection (it makes it too obvious he’ll betray Hera)
    • He now says “No. This plan will fail. We won’t be able to secure the carrier in time.” Then leads into his “I recommend a change in plan.”
  • Cut Kanan’s line “Chams schedules and Hera’s plan” as it was stupid reasoning
  • Cut Cham’s Jedi justification as I didn’t like it.
  • Cut Cham scolding Hera (it’s still there but there’s less of it)
  • Cut cut to black and replaced it with a wipe to imply time passing.
  • Cut Kanan asking Cham about his heroics, we cut to him boasting to the wider crew.
    • Now Cham and his crew are building rapport with the Ghost crew before betraying them (almost like it’s part of the plan).
  • Rescored Cham telling his story with Freedom Fighters Attack from the Clone Wars
  • Made Gobi and Hera speak Twi’leki here instead of basic.
  • Cut a lot of Kanan and Hera’s back and forth about her being like Cham, the look she gives him says it all.
  • Cut “Let’s hope this works.” from Hera. You’re whole selling point that Cham should follow YOUR PLAN is this moment! Don’t undercut it with this line!
  • Cut a shot of the carrier and light frigate over Ryloth. It hurt the pacing.
  • Trimmed Kanan’s first exchange with the carrier cutting “Bomber to” and just having him start the sentence with “Carrier”
  • Trimmed the A-wings breaking off (we didn’t need to see them jump to hyperspace it hurts the pacing)
  • Cut the Imperial saying the Rebels had fled and put the “we’ve been hit, coming in hot” dialogue from Kanan over the next shot.
  • Cut Kanan telling Hera to slow down. Now she says “It has to look good!” without prompting.
  • Zeb’s “I hate it when she says that.” as we just don’t need it, it hurts the pace of the crash.
  • Cut the shots of Kanan and Cham hitting the ground. There’s too many shots here it really kills the pacing. We only need to see the crew being thrown about and the cockpit being thrown about.
  • Cut the base commander ordering a squad down to “initiate crash protocols”. I think the Empire looks better if the stormtroopers are on their way without the order.
  • Cut a shot of Hera struggling to get control as it hurts the pacing AND we’ve already seen her doing this with a previous shot.
  • Cut Sabine saying “explosives!?” and a shot of her looking at the detonators for pacing. Also Sabine doesn’t need to ask, SHE KNOWS WHAT SHE’S LOOKING AT.
  • Cut Ezra, Sabine, Zeb reaction to being betrayed shot for pacing.
  • Cut Kanan “I Heard shots!?” for pacing…
  • Cut “Pilot?” from the stormtrooper as I think it made him look stupid.
    • Replaced storms line with “Let’s see some ID?” Ripped from Jedi Academy.
  • Added Jedi Academy Stormtrooper death noise as one trooper silently got taken down.
  • Cut Zeb’s “you should have let me!” line as it was bad for facing. You’re being shot at!!
  • Cut first shot of Numa for pacing.
  • Added stormtrooper getting hit voice lines to the shot of the door closing on them.
  • Made Numa and Cham converse in Twi’leki instead of basic as it makes more tactical sense.
  • Cut Ezra’s “I REALLY mean it… this IS the captain.” they try place this joke TWICE for laughs… it’s way funnier if you just overhear the Imp say that over the radio.
  • Made Gobi and Numa both speak Twi’leki like they ONLY do in Clone Wars.
  • Cut shot of Cham looking sad.
  • Cut Cham “as I feared” as it wasn’t needed and keeps the pace going.
  • Cut establishing shot of the Bombers and the Carrier
  • Cut Hera “we’re not in the clear yet.”
  • Cut Kanan “Incoming torpedoes!” Yes Kanan, we can all see that.

Hey Goob, there’s a torrent for Rebels S02, it’s a blu ray rip and it boasts 5.1 sound.

Edit: Ah okay, I did some further research and I see why you specifically need the Amazon Prime version. Yeah, shame it’s no longer for sale, that’s a bummer. I could find it on YouTube just fine but obviously that’s not 5.1.

Yeah 😅. At the moment, I’ve got the audio from star wars story’s video. I’ve then seperated the audio with AI tools to get voice, sfx, and music. Then remapped it for 5.1 sound. It does currently sound pretty good bit I want PERFECTION (if possible) hahaha.

Interestingly, in the comments of that video, there are people saying that the Disney+ version was replaced with the Ian dub. One of the comments is as old as a year ago, and another as recent as 6 months ago speculating that it could be region based. I don’t know how recently you checked the Disney+ version but they may have changed it? I’m not able to verify those claims myself right now but perhaps you or someone here can?
