Star Wars Episode II: The Approaching Storm (Released) — Page 37

Yeah, Episode 1 is the weakest link to me just because of how disconnected it feels from the saga as a whole. It feels like a prologue that gets stretched out to the length of a full movie. If George had done 4 prequel movies, with one of those being the Clone Wars, I wouldn’t have disliked it as much.

Or simply making Anakin the same age as Padme (13-14) in TPM and having their love story start sooner would have been preferable. I understand George wanting to show how traumatic it is to leave your mother at age 9, but honestly I think it would be just as traumatic if you can show how attached he is to her. I would have loved to have Anakin fill that Han Solo / rogue character archetype at first, scraping by whatever he can, perhaps even stealing, in order to look out for her.

Just watched this last night with my 8-year-old twins and finally really liked this movie. The additional scenes with Padme and Anakin really sell the burgeoning love story and finally make it believable. I can’t believe those were omitted in the theatrical release.

In addition, the political maneuvering is finally understandable. I also like that Yoda isn’t a limber acrobat in his fight with Dooku.

The only edit that I noticed (it’s been a long time since I pulled out the theatrical release) is fairly early in the film where Palpatine is talking to Anakin in his office. There’s a camera change that happens quickly turning to Anakin (perhaps from cutting extraneous dialogue from Palpatine where the angle change is more gradual) and likely can’t be fixed but it is absolutely passable. None of the rest of my family noticed.

Bravo.

Thanks for saying so, and I’m glad to hear it. Also, I’m fairly confident that that scene actually contained no changes.

I never had the nerve to make the final cut.
