I’m far too young to have experienced star wars in theaters in 1977, but I saw Dune: Part Two in theaters this year, and I couldn’t help but feel a bit like I was watching star wars for the first time. It was so beautiful so alien, so thrilling, so totally different than anything I had seen even after decades of sci-fi and super hero movies. The music was also iconic and unique, and while star war’s vfx were groundbreaking for 1977 in a way vfx never can be again, I think Dune: Part Two achieved something else, perfect visual effects. It’s simply flawless, you might as well be looking at a movie that was filmed completely in camera, and yet what the camera has filmed is completely impossible. The arena scene in particular comes to mind as just mindblowingly different than anything else I’ve seen put to film.

Can anyone here who has seen both in theaters compare to see if I’m on the right track lol?

You’re not on the right track. Far from it.

…go back and watch project 4k77 and tell me the original 1977 vfx of star wars are not distractingly bad, they are, basically all vfx before about 2005 are.

I’d say you’re not even on the rails. 😉

Note: there are plenty of Dune threads in the Media section site - rather than bump a 20 year old thread on what it was like to experience Star Wars in theatres back in 1977 - for that post on your admiration of Dune (II). There also some ‘Dune - Star Wars :origins and comparisons’ type threads listed in the An Index + ‘Info & Help’ Thread for… Original Trilogy Discussion thread.

Good luck with it. 👍
