The Rise of Skywalker: Untold (Released) — Page 7

Hi everyone! The work continues. I’ve hit some snags along the way, but I’ve been pushing through them.

I’ve been working lately on the Death Star Duel - lots of complex things going into this scene, and I wanted to get your opinion on one of them. I love Ascendant’s addition of “Duel of the Fates” here; but I thought it would be interesting to incorporate Kylo’s and Rey’s themes into the music. I originally suggested this for Ascendant back in (dear God) 2021, according to my timestamps; but I’ve gone back in and entirely remixed the track based on feedback I received back then.

I actually have two potential versions, mainly differing in the implementation of Kylo’s theme around the 1:00 mark. I’ve increased the volume from the final mix to make the music easier to hear. What do you think?

Version A
Version B

Hey Sherlock. Really looking forward to this edit.

I think Version B sounds significantly more like it was “scored to picture”. It just seems to line up better with onscreen action. That being said, I don’t love the Rey theme (what is it, bassoon or something?) at 1:14. This moment in Version A resonates better for me with what’s going on in scene.

And a side note, if you want my opinion - Finn’s repetitive “Rey!” is little annoying. I prefer Hal’s edit to a single “Rey”. Can’t wait to see the finished product!

Thank you for the feedback!

The second Finn shout was a consequence of shuffling some shots around (kind of an interesting domino effect, actually); but I can trim the footage down and keep it to the one shout. Thanks for the note!

I agree that version B just feels more natural.

On another note, do we really need Finn’s constant interruptions? It breaks the flow and tension.

Best of luck any way this turns out.

Hello, everyone! Apologies for going dark for so long. However, I think this update will be worth it.

I’ve been hard at work pulling everything together, making final tweaks, updating notes, checking and rechecking every detail; and after almost six years of work, I am excited to announce that Untold is finally going to release! The edit will be a 264 encode, with a 5.1 DTS English audio track, and will also include English CC subtitles, English SDH subtitles, and chapter markers.

Additionally, I’m preparing a few special features to go along with the film. These include a full fan editor commentary track, a brand new trailer, and more. I’m very proud of how the edit has turned out, and I wanted to give it the best possible release. These extras should provide more insight into the thoughts and process behind the hundreds of changes that have gone into the film.

I’m aiming to get it out within the next month or so. We’re nearly there - I think it will be worth the wait!

Can’t believe I’m excited to revisit TroS, really excited for this one sherlockpotter.

Really curious about this edit. Right now my go-to for a Rey Nobody edit is Spence’s “The Final Order” so I’m wondering if this will eclipse it for me.

One change that I personally feel should be in any edit of this film is if the line”I am all the Sith” is kept Rey should respond “I am a Jedi”. It’s so obvious I was shocked it wasn’t used. Palpatine is vaingloriously declaring himself the accumulation of millennia of evil force wizards and Rey is exalts the power of a single person. That’s Star Wars in two lines of dialogue.

Streamable only keeps videos for a limited time, so most of those old clips will be expired by now, unfortunately.

Don’t worry, I was the one pushing to change the line to “I am a Jedi” back on TROS: Ascendant, and I definitely used it here too!

This sounds unbelievably cool. In particular, I really like how extensive this sounds and how it’s almost like you’re taking influence from a mix of existing edits as well as the Duel of the Fates draft. Consider me VERY interested and excited.

Honestly, I haven’t seen any other TROS fan edits other than Ascendant. A lot of my changes are fairly intricate, and I didn’t want to get different versions of the film confused in my head. It will be nice to check out other people’s work when I’m done!

And as much as Duel of the Fates handles Finn better than TROS does, I do think that its handling of Poe and especially of Kylo is significantly worse. So hopefully I’ve come up with something better here!

To be fair, most edits I’ve seen tend to be variants of Ascendant to begin with but that’s interesting to hear and totally understandable.

Also very much agreed on Duel of the Fates as it is. Regardless, still very much looking forward to this, just so many cool ideas are present here.

Hello, all! Welcome to what, by all accounts should be our last 2/22 update! (That actually makes me a little sad.)

The most exciting news is that I finally sat down and watched the entire edit start to finish - which, yes, was my first time doing so since the project began. And I have to say… I think it’s better than I ever would have predicted when I started all those years ago, let alone when I first saw the film in theatres. I think it really came together well!

However, true to form, I did make a list of some spots where I noticed things were a tad off - adjusting a color tint here, tweaking some EQ there, etc. I know I said last time that it would be around a month, but we’ve come this far; I want it to be as close to perfect as possible!

In addition, I’m building out those special features I promised. There’s so much I wanted to include in the commentary track, it’s been a bit of a bear editing it all down to time…

All that being said, I can’t keep delaying forever. It’s not fair to you, and it’s certainly not psychologically healthy for me. And so, I am going to announce a hard deadline of: May the Fourth. This is the first time I’m committing to an actual release date. Might even be earlier than that; but short of computer failure, I promise it won’t be later. Just a few more weeks!

Thank you as always for your patience and support. I can’t wait to share it with all of you!

The commentary track I’m looking forward to the most in terms of special features. Just getting to have a peek into the thought process behind each change, talk about the original movie and of course the sequels in general. I’ve found it so fascinating listening to Hal 9000’s commentary on his edits so this will be a treat. I also say take as much time as you need to refine it to the best it can be. The people who made the original movie unfortunately didn’t have that luxury so the time is a huge benefit. That being said? May 4th will be a great date for this and I’m excited to see the final product.

Hello everyone, happy Star Wars Day. You’ve waited long enough… and you’ll have to wait just a teensy bit longer, because I’m working on compiling everything together. (There is a lot of stuff to upload.) However, I think Untold is finally ready to release!

I genuinely can’t believe that this day is here - when I started the project over six years ago, I had no idea how much work this would be and how much of my life it would consume (it almost feels strange to share something that’s been so personal for so long); but nor did I know how many wonderful people I would meet in this community, and what we would be able to accomplish.

I set out to make a film that could sit cohesively with Episodes VII and VIII - a film that would elevate the entire Sequel Trilogy, rather than undercut it at every turn. And I think this might be it. I think it’s a significant improvement over the theatrical cut, and I hope you will too.

As I’m getting everything ready, I know that a fair number of you cheeky buggers have already requested the edit, despite it not being released yet. I’m going to try to get to everyone who messaged me; feel free to send a reply to help me find you again.

And while I’m working through the queue, I thought you all might be interested in seeing the new trailer I cut for the film!

To everyone who contributed material, or offered feedback, or even just expressed interest and encouragement, thank you! I hope that Untold was worth the wait!
