I had the same idea to make TPM look more like 1977 ANH. Curious how yours ended up looking especially with film grain as I think that is an important part.
A ‘light’ film grain works wonders, especially with helping to blend in not only the original VFX, but the new VFX shots I’ve done. It also helps add depth to the midtones and highlights. I’m using real film grain, sourced from a 35mm scan, rather than digital or fake grain.
I had created as series of premier filters stacked on top of each other to get the look the way I wanted and to match my ANH. Turned out well but have not done much other first 10 minutes or so as a break from other things
