Felidae 4K remaster English Audio resync

Hello everyone.
Since the 4K Deaf Crocodile blu-ray release of the animated film Felidae was released without the English audio track, I figured I would resync the track from the DVD to the 4K version. I’m mostly done with the resync after having to reconstruct some dialog that was damaged due to it being incorrectly overlapped on the DVD release. I’m also working on resyncing the German commentary that was on the DVD and will probably try and find a way to get it translated so that I can include timed subtitles for it, as well.

The English dub on this film was actually quite well done so I wonder why it wasn’t included on the 4K release.

Once this is done, what would be the best way to make the audio available? I can put flac files on the spleen unless it would be better to compress them to a different format.

Can go with a private tracker but for easier access I suggest allowing users to DM you to request access. You can then upload the file to a site like Gofile or WeTransfer and share a private link. I’m very much interested myself when this is complete!

Just upload the flacs to Mega or something. Sleen is nice but most people don’t have access to it and probably never will.

Looking forward to this. I meant to do this when the UHD first came out and just never got around to it.

So, the audio is resynced and now I’m considering doing a 5.1 mix off of it with some of the tools I found trying in vain to separate the overlapping dialog. I can do a pro-logic 4.1 mix as a basis and then isolate parts of the dialog, music, and sound effects to improve the depth.

I synced the English dub to my 4K video from Deaf Crocodile as well. Nice to see someone else has done it too.
It is obvious that an English version was meant to be released by the original creator. The computer screen video
is in English on this Deaf Crocodile release while on the DVD I have they are in German.
How did you fix the overlapping audio issue? I used AI text to speech to recreate the dialog and then
mixed it in.
I synced the German surround track from the DVD to the 4K as well.
Your English Surround mix using stems sounds like an interesting idea. I am definitely interested

I reconstructed the missing bits of dialog from other lines in the movie. What program did you use to recreate the dialog? I haven’t found any AI programs that were able to give results that I was happy with. I was able to partially isolate the two different lines of dialog so that I could hear what was being said but I couldn’t remove the other voice completely. Bluebeard has part of his dialog almost completely obliterated by the overlapping dialog. I could tell he ways saying something but I couldn’t tell what he said until I reduced Pascal’s dialog.
I hadn’t thought about trying to resync the German surround mix. I believe Deaf Crocodile left it off because it wasn’t a true theatrical mix and possibly because it had the overlapping dialog issue, as well. The theatrical release used a stereo Dolby track that was pro-logic compatible.

As far as the English theatrical release, I read somewhere that the movie got a very limited theatrical run in Australia. It’s not unusual for dub tracks to be made and then never released, though. The studios will sometimes commission a foreign language dub in order to try and shop the film around to international distributors in hopes of getting a foreign release.
There is a lot of bad info regarding the English dub, as well. There are a number of sites with the wrong voice actors including one that claimed the cast included Cary Elwes and Christopher Lloyd (it does not). I found a list with the correct voice actors but I forgot to bookmark it so I will have to hunt it down again. Considering that none of the voice actors were big names in acting or voiceover work, the English dub is incredibly well done. The original German dub hired known German actors and received complaints that some of them delivered their lines very poorly.

Most of the complaints were around Klaus Maria Brandauer as Pascal sounding like he just phoned in his lines. I’m not German but even I can tell his delivery sounds really flat.

Dolby SR is supposed to work with prologic theater sound systems so I’m guessing it’s either a conversion from prologic surround to discreet 5.1 or something modified off of that. I might do a prologic-style upmix of the German track on the Deaf Crocodile release to see how it compares to the mix from the DVD.
There’s a spot on the DVD where you can see instructions to the animators, in English, at the end of the scroll of names on the computer screen. Something like this wouldn’t have made it to the final film. The animation utilized animation studios in both Germany and Canada so the English instructions imply that the computer screen animation was probably done in Canada. I believe the Deaf Crocodile release is what was actually seen in German theaters since they used the original negatives and the opening titles are in German. The screens scroll by so fast that the viewer was never expected to actually read them but they were replaced with alternate animation in German for the DVD since the viewers could now pause the video. The computer scroll has some funny little jokes thrown in by the animators, as well.

It’s interesting that the end credits are in English on both the DVD and UHD Bluray release. This could indicate that they were hoping for an international release that never really happened.

The English dub was probably sort of a scratch track. If the movie had been picked up for a proper international release, they would have hired a few well-known actors to re-dub some of the characters voices the way the did with the German version

There is also a French dub that I don’t have.
