OK, I’ll jump in here and comment. I’ve been casually following this for probably about a month or so but wanna ask some questions to people that might know more than me. How are we certain that this will see any type of release when the scans were supposedly done back in 2022?

Another thing I’d like to add I’m leaning on this being real strictly because for somebody to fake this to get Internet points with let’s face it. A small niche community is a little far-fetched for me although I also wouldn’t put it past people.

And third thing if this is true, Disney has been kind of on a pretty good track record lately with their restorations. They just did a 4K blu ray this year for a sound of music, Edward Scissorhands, tron, tron legacy, tombstone, and lilo and stich. All of which were high quality and many saw a physical release after a theatrical run. So there’s hope since I feel Star Wars would sell better than some of these titles.

Just curious what you all think about this.

I still remember the excitement of finally getting the OUT, only to find out it would be the non-anamorphic laserdisc masters. I’ve learned not to get my hopes up. We all waited decades for 4Ks of James Cameron’s movies, only to get to get the toxic sludge that we did. I’ll believe this when the disc is well-reviewed, colored properly, and in my player.

Something that would be interesting to see in these comparisons are GOUT screenshots and, for what it’s worth, screenshots of fan preservations that used the earlier ld releases.

That is an intriguing idea mate - though it is one I couldn’t do myself (it is already taking a considerable amount of time / effort in getting these done for each ‘upload batch’ - and am also finding my free time somewhat limited of late).

Although if anyone wishes to do so - please go ahead. 👍

(though please remember to not place too many images on a single page - the Image Screenshots & Comparisons ‘info post’ on Page 5 is an example of a very slow-loading page - given there are some 120+ images on there).

Yeah, the point of the comparison is that this isn’t sourced from the UHD. Or you’re right, it would also have quality loss. Also good to note that the 97 filmouts also had fake digital grain added on top to disguise the new CG! So yeah, doubly worse…
