That was me. Saw the movies for the first time when I was 7 in 1997 and grew up with the SEs. Most of the 2004 changes rubbed me the wrong way.

And that’s before we get on to those awful ‘deliberate creative decisions’ for the 2004 release (which were magically fixed for the 2011 release!) 😉
 

It is surprising that the 1997 Special Editions haven’t been made available on Disney+ - in the same way other content like 2003 Clone Wars has, or other ‘non-canon’ releases have - via their ‘Vintage Collection’ section. They even have pristine prints of the 1997SE at the ready.

They do form an integral part of Star Wars history - and were how many fans saw the films on the big screen at the time.

For anyone searching for 1997 Special Edition reconstructions and preservations (in SD, HD, & 4K) - this may be of some help…

Really if I could I’d make my own cut but for all the times I have visited this site and been a member, I still don’t know how to get my hands on a single damn thing and it’s so friggin obtuse that it blows me away. It’s so frustrating. I end up just giving up after a time. It’s been years of coming back here with people insisting that these cuts exist and I always come up empty handed.

For many of the fan projects featured on here you simply send the author a PM politely asking for links to their project - or follow the instructions given in the opening post of their threads.

^ as stated in the above linked post… you will need to have made 30 posts on this site - not including any ‘link request’ posts - to receive any project links… yet they are easily and readily available. Good luck with it. 👍
 

In general, simply becoming an active and participating member of the community on here means a significantly better chance of others helping you out in acquiring any fan projects you may be looking for…
