Just to be sure, have you recieved the updated italian subtitles I sent you? I realzied it’s been a while since I sent them and I don’t recall ever hearing from you after that.

Hey Paul, sorry for the late reply. After releasing the update decided to take a much needed break. I received them, I’ll try to add them to the download folder soon as an alternate version. I think I noticed that you integrated some of the closed caption format such as the character names and other descriptions, so I still want to keep the old Italian version for those that want just the translations. Thanks for your efforts!

It’s up to you how you want to implement them. I added the closed captions only when it came to the names of the characters talking off-screen, or for characters speaking another lenguage (on those few moments dwarvish and elvish aren’t subtitles). Just as a heads up: I realized I completely missed two lines that were left in english. One is “Let them all go?” during the troll sequence (should be line #609) which in italian is “Li lasciamo andare?”. The other is “The bear is unpredictable…” (around line #1206 about Beorn) which is “L’orso è imprevedibile…”. Let me know if I should send them again, or if you could edit those two lines on your own. Thanks for taking my offer into consideration.

I noticed that the video sources are the original Blu-Rays, and not the remastered Blu-Rays. It would be nice if a new version of this edit was made with them. Here’s where to find them:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Middle-Earth-6-Film-Collection-Remastered-Extended-Edition-Set-Blu-ray/dp/B09HCLCQN7

What does M4 think of the remastered picture?

These have higher levels of DNR and tinkering.

True, that’s a good point. I know LOTR suffers most but I hadn’t heard much about The Hobbit remasters, I know the HDR is pretty cool and redone grading might be better than previously, but given the fact that I’m already redoing my own color grading and they probably did some unnecessary DNR/tinkering, I think the 1080p version is the one to stick with.

Just want to say I watched this edit and loved it. Way better than the originals.

That said I did miss some of the white council and Sauron stuff but if that wasn’t in the book I understand why it was cut.

Hi, could I have a link as well, please? Also including the subtitles if possible (especially English subtitles if they have been made - a necessity in this household… and if they haven’t, I might just use the above-mentioned Italian subtitles to make them myself).

The english subtitles are available in M4’s shared Drive, even with closed captions. I myself used them as basis to make my own updated italian subtitles

I’ve seen several comments the past few months pop up that seem to have been removed as they were just asking for a link? Not sure why, but that’s what I would assume.

This project is still available, feel free to reach out with any questions, no need to leave a comment here.

I am currently working on a potential 2025 revision as well due to some new discoveries, especially due to new music-removal tools becoming better. Nothing too major though.

It was also AI upscaled, even though the digital picture was shot with 5K resolution cameras and finished in 2K.

Thank you, thank you very much! This is an amazing job, and the one who got me to want to watch again the movie(s). You did a very professional editing job indeed. 😃

I have one cuestion. How hard would it be for me (or anyone) to edit the audio tracks of other languages to match your edit? Could you give any indications on where to make the cuts? Or is it too hard for someone not involved in your work to tackle?

I would love to have this edit with the spanish dub. I have no problem whatsoever with english, but I would like to show your cut to my child when he becomes old enough.

Hi. About this question, I can share with you my experience: for this edit and for my private vision, i created the italian dub (@sidshady12 write me if you are interested to add to your edit). It’s long process (it depends how much time do you dedicate, probably in a month you can do it, i worked mostly at the weekends), but it isn’t so hard. What you need are: the audio tracks of the extended version of the movies and the list of changes and cut made by sidshady12 (you can find them here or on his website). What i did is extract the audio track of M4 Book edit and all extended movies and i opened them in Adobe Audition (i think it’s a great program to do this kind of things because you can work on audio adding effects or separate dialogue and backing music). Then i opened the movie on a video player and the original movie on another video player. Then i watched the two movies at the same time, so i can noticed when he made cuts. I suggest to you to maintain the M4 Book Edit’s track as basic track and replace only dialogues parts. Then is easy compiling a new movie edit file adding the track in your language (i used MKVToolnix) and forced subtitle track. The only parts not translated is the final Gandalf’s speech at Thorin’s funeral, that part i left it in english with subtitle. Ask me anything you want.

Hi, I’m interesting in the italian dub can anyone help me to find it? Thanks
