If we can get the original Star Wars trilogy in 4K why stop there. Restore American Graffiti and THX 1138. From the techniscope negatives.
Yeah, that will never happen but It would be a nice thing. We could just pretend the existing 1998 cut in 4K slathered with DNR for American Graffiti does not exist.
Do you think maybe the reason we haven’t seen THX-1138 in 4k just yet is because Lucas already wants to redo the 2004 cg in 4k? The 2004 and 2011 Changes for Star Wars got redone for the UHD (most of them anyway, I don’t know about Jabba in ANH). As far as I know, THX was only finished in HD for the dvd just like the OT, and they both hit shelves the same week in 2004.
If this latest OT restoration turns out to be real, and if it is I have to imagine this will be the last one for the foreseeable future, maybe George will once again use it as an opportunity to remaster his first movie.
It would be hilarious if Universal for some reason double-dipped on Graffiti but I don’t see it happening.
