The vimeo clips are mind boggling. Why are they digitizing unused landspeeer and snowspeeder background plate footage? Is there any reason other than recomps to digitize that asteroid? Yet the ANH clips suggest this won’t be recomposites. So, that’s pretty mysterious.

They’re certainly farther along with ANH than the other two movies. Almost nothing from the heaviest model-work sections of ESB & ROTJ.

Yeah, the vimeo channel videos seem to be ‘deleted / unused scenes’, ‘raw elements’, and ‘location test shots / practice runs’ type of content etc - a few of us found them really interesting (as well as just cool to look at). They could be in indicator towards a physical media release (or large-scale internal archival project) - rather than just a DCP for a theatrical run for the 50th anniversary. I do hope we get to see some more of those kind of videos.
 

I wish I could have uploaded all the videos in 4K - they really do pop and look outstanding - though still look gorgeous to me at 720p.

The snowspeeder helicopter plate isn’t used in the film, is it? I watched “Search & Rescue” and it doesn’t seem to be in that sequence; can’t think where else it’d go

Same here - I don’t think it was used in the film; likely an alternative shot or from a practice run etc.

I will check the Imperial Probe scenes later when I get a chance (busy today), just in case anything matches or looks familiar.

I think the dead giveaway this was always going to have some sort of physical release (whether it’s Disney doing it or they license it to a label like Criterion) - even before the official 50th announcement so early - is that they’re working on an Atmos mix next to the theatrical audio restorations.

I’ve heard the suggestions that it could be an internal archival project BUT an Atmos remix nulls all that out. You’d only be doing one of those if you’re planning on a big release, theatrical AND home, otherwise it wouldn’t make any sense to do at all.

I also wonder if they won’t do a purist version (original effects) and a nicer-looking version (original but recomposited effects), with the latter being what gets released in theaters.

This guy is complete BS. I have been following this leak since the beginning. In fact, I discovered it! (I am Member X) I have no clue what the hell “Do7” is, but this guy, whoever he is, has no connection to the proposed restoration team (ALI). The Pastebin Texts (if that’s what he’s referring to) are in fact real for the most part, there are some clear inaccuracies Which we, on the other forum, have concluded is due to AI being involved in this whole ordeal, not the actual restoration mind you, but the uploading to YouTube and pastebin deal. Please disregard this person and his sock here and I call on the mods to take action against this troll who is spreading BS and wants attention. Please just ignore him and take everything he says with a grain of salt.

I would hope they leave it alone completely.

There’s no reason for a nicer-looking version when the SE exists. If we want to keep any fixes while getting rid of what we don’t like, well, that’s what places like this are for.

Historical preservation would be my priority. That’s why it kinda bothers me that they’re apparently doing a 7.1 remix with alternate takes and whatnot. If that was only being done for the latest SE I wouldn’t care, but if that’s what would be heard in a dcp of the “unaltered” version then we’re getting into revisionism territory.

They’re fully restoring both the stereo and mono mixes. And maybe the 70mm mix too. The 7.1 DTS will probably be for theatres, as there is no evidence that it will be included on home media. What we do know is that they aren’t just remixing from the stems but going back to the raw elements…
