Even with just the temp audio, wow, I think that works and flows perfectly - well done! It’ll take some getting used to (with the original so well-ingrained in memory) but this is certainly a good change to get used to 😉
I assume you’ll keep the siren blaring up until it gets cut off moments before the Imperials ‘fire-zipper’ the door, just like how you had it in the original Revisited? Always loved how you handled that detail and the impact it has on the scene.
And we’re glad to see you’re doing okay, Ady, even if your monitor currently is not. Hoping you can get that situation resolved soon but in the meantime we’re still here for you 😃

Not to be a pain, but after rewatching the droid removal shot comp you posted a while back. It’s spectacular, But I noticed that in the top section of the clip near the edge of the wall, there seems to be a misalignment of sources:

There is a subtle change made to R2 in this shot in the 2019 transfer, in case you didn’t know. Will you be using it for ANH:R HD? I know it’s not much of a change, but it’s still a change.

I think he said he wouldn’t be doing more work on ESB. At least no new changes.

Hey Ady, in relation to your “red leader trench run” video
@ 1:04 Vader is doing the trench run. When it cut to inside his cockpit, the background shows him still in space and flying downward. He should have the trench run in the window behind him (Scratch that, shouldn’t have the trench run in the top window, but the stars should be going forward to backward, not up to down). This happens again @ 1:18
@ 1:41 Vader is banking left and downward on Red Leader’s tail. The following cockpit shot of Vader should have the background stars reflect that (it currently shows him flying violently downward like most cockpit shots of him). Fixing that would also line up with the next shot that shows Red Leader’s cockpit view.
@ 1:45 should there be a sound effect and laser shot added for Vader hitting Red Leader? He just says he lost his starboard engine.
@ 1:53 shouldn’t Vader’s star background match Red Leader’s since he’s on his tail? Vader’s star field is going in the opposite direction.
And what are your thoughts on adding Vader jumping to hyperspace after the battle that “That guy with no name” did?

Really hope we get an update and perhaps a release window for the HD version of his ANH…
I am aware of the bad luck that has happened to him over the last… well decade really. I can see why ones motivation would start to drop significantly. But perhaps -hopefully- I’m interpreting the radio silence wrongly.

But since that’s the top window, shouldn’t the stars be going forward to backward? The stars flying up to down implies he’s aiming his ship downward in to the ground. I could very well be wrong again though lol

Hi Adywan, I know that among your sources you are using a 2011 Blu-ray downscaled to 720p and upscaled with Topaz AI to 1080p, and the 2020 UHD Blu-ray for scenes and details that look better, but recently a completely new and restored version was leaked using the OCN, without abusive and poorly done DNR as in UHD Blu-ray and with a much higher resolution and details. We know that all of your work on ANH and ROTJ so far has been with the previous sources, but if these versions were to come out in 2027, would you use them to improve your edition? In my opinion the news is quite hard for your situation, since you have had to work hard to eliminate static grain in the UHD Blu-ray, only for a version with the correct grain and much more detail to come out now. (Obviously this is incredible news since it’s a leak from the OUT and not a renewed SE, I say this from your position when working on Revisited)

I’d still argue Ady’s might look better. Disney and Lucasfilm has had a TERRIBLE track record of quality on home video releases and I’d be willing to bet money that 4K77 and Despecialized will still look miles better than an official release.

Watching the opening scenes on another thread reminded me of this and forgive me if I’ve already posted it. When the Tantive 4 is being pulled in to the hanger of the Devastator you can hear what sounds like the docking claw scrape the hull and then the film cuts to an exterior shot and the claw hasn’t made contact. If the shots were resequenced you could have the exterior followed by the interior and the scraping sound would carry more impact. Maybe the claw could be slightly animated like its opening in readiness for the ship. Also could Threepio just say “There will be no escape this time”? I’m sure there is a wookiepedia page devoted to why he pretends not to know who Leia is to Luke but he doesn’t need to mention the Princess anyway as she is mentioned in the crawl.
3P0’s line has already been changed to " there’ll be no escape this time" ever since my original edit. The audio on the clips i post of the HD version are always just a temp track because that would be the last thing that i work on after i have finished the video side of things. As for the matter of the sound of something like a clamp attaching to the ship before its even been pulled in, i thought i had mentioned a long time ago that i would be tackling that ( but i may have fogot its been so long now). Anyway i had finished re-editing that scene last year. Very tricky to do though because of where to be able to cut the music cues for it to work, which is impossible to do without editing the music then getting the visuals to work with the new edit and then rebuild all the dialogue and foley FX. I have only done a very rough audio track to see if it would work so far and will be polishing it up for the final release

There is some missing music from the sequence although only short.
A timpani roll after “There will be no escape (for the princess) This time”
This is not a suggestion for you but I re-arranged this whole bit quite a lot with success and some bits not being so fluid but passable. It meant cutting the footage down to be shorter with a few short additions overall decreasing running time. There is quite a lot wrong with the order of the shots over this whole part already indicated C3P0 “what’s that” should be after the clamp attach. I will leave it up to you how you choose to tackle it. But may the missing Timpani Roll make you question it’s deletion.
Plot-wise there is only 1 inconsistency of which 2 should be seen…
My opinion is there are small things missing and too much footage

Aha, but a lot of the recent Disney 4K restorations have been consistently superb (Trons, Sound Of Music, Rocky Horror, etc.). The leaks for the unaltered OT look decent, although the screenshots I’ve seen look too compressed to really tell, I suppose. Still waits to be seen if they end up a mess, but… I would be cautious about placing bets so soon is my point.
I read that the current Special Edition 4Ks are what were prepared for the 3D George Lucas re-releases, which in turn were based off the 2011 Blu-rays that have lots of issues, as we all know. That’s why textures on everything look kinda gross and DNR heavy on the Disney 4Ks, it’s what George left them with. So this new Disney restoration could/should theoretically fix these issues. I saw they’re cleaning up individual layers of outerspace shots and whatnot, it seems impressive and hopefully faithful.
Obviously an enormous hassle for adywan (trying to keep things on topic). But it actually could be a worthwhile restoration down the road.
