I just watched the first two films in your Bad Batch trilogy and, as someone who never got around to watching the entirety of the original show, I think they are fantastic. As others have stated, you do a great job of cutting out/around certain events to keep these movies feeling like movies, rather than a collection of episodes with their own three act structures.
Also, I must say, having the Emperor’s scene from midway through the second season serve as the epilogue to the first film was a great choice. While I did enjoy parts of that two-episode arc, cutting it down to just that scene was definitely the right call. I love how your edits don’t feel the need to show everything, that you’re confident that the audience can piece together things not shown on screen (something the OT did masterfully), and I think this scene is a great example of that. There is one minor request I have, and it may be something that you’ve already done elsewhere: do you happen to have a list of all of the episodes that you adapted for these movies? If so, I would love to see it! I really enjoy going back to see what was included and what wasn’t for edits like these.
Looking forward to finishing off the trilogy and then starting Rebels!
Hey, thanks. Bad Batch is such a mixed bad for me, I’m glad you appreciated what I’ve done with it. Audiences are smart enough to fill in the gaps, and I always point to the original films myself for examples of how there’s a lot they don’t spell out for you. Often I think, with fanedits, because audiences know what’s missing, they think people won’t get it.
I don’t have an episode list on hand. From memory, Film 1 was mostly S1 episodes 1-3, and 14-16, plus that scene from season 2. Film 2 was season 2 14-16 and season 3 1-4. And film 3 has little bits from almost every episode left with a focus on S3 episodes 5, 9, 10, 14 and 15, with episode 10 moved to the beginning, intercut with bits of 5-8 to keep momentum and relevance to the overall arc.
