Idea: 'The Shadow' - a Widscreen DTS version?

I know this movie is dogged out by most but I actually enjoyed it. The frustration for me is that there has never been a widescreen version on DVD that I am aware of. I mean there is the DTS version but it’s full screen, what is that about? So as a project for anyone else or as I am considering getting into edits myself, would there be any interest in such a thing? I am assuming i’d have to get the elements from Laserdisc or something and then take the DTS track from the DVD.

Any thoughts/suggestions?

The Shadow Widescreen Laserdisc. Seller has it going for 12 bucks on the "Buy It Now" deal.

The European dvd is in widescreen, and is anamorphic.

Ok but I would like the DTS track aswell, does it include that? If not I could rip it from the US release and then apply it to the European one and then make the DVD no regional? Does that sound right?

I too would like a widescreen DTS Shadow. This was a good movie, IMHO, despite what many people might say.

No, there is no DTS track on the r2 dvd. You could do as you said, but since the r2 dvd is in PAL format, you need to slow it down 4% for it to match with the american audio track.

I too would be interested in such a thing. I remember liking the film a lot when I was a kid. I still play part of the soundtrack from time to time.

Unless the IMDB technical specs are wrong, wasn't the movie shot open matte?

Pretty much all films in 1.85:1 are shot open matte. This doesn't neccesarily mean that the full screen dvds are open matte though. There could have been microphones and dolly tracks under the mattes. Also, there is no way you can compare matting off a full screen dvd image by yourself, and comparing that to a professionally made anamorphic transfer.

I actually enjoyed the film too, with a few exceptions... like his magically growing nose! C'mon Baldwin... if you're gonna play the role have it one way or another.

I appreciated the film being set in the correct time period though. There were several nice touches... but as I haven't seen it since the theatrical run I really should re-watch it some time.
