ANDOR: The Rogue One Arc (Rogue One Rescore) [AVAILABLE] — Page 6

My notes after an Andor rewatch followed by this:

  • Excellent. The rescoring goes a long way, as does some trims to the fan service.
  • The score changes in S2 have made the edit stand out a little now, so an update sounds great in this regard.
  • Maybe retitle ‘Jedha’ in light of the S2 finale’s title.
  • As previously mentioned, I’d try moving the Erso family flashback to the episode 2 opening.
  • I’m pro Bor Gullet. Bit of flavour for crazy old Saw.
  • Bail’s first appearance is weird and as he contributes nothing it might be better just to cut the few shots of him.
  • I’d be tempted to cut the action on Jedha down further. K2 shows up just to contribute to the fight, and then returns to the ship again just in time for the plot to return. You could possibly cut him entirely and streamline the rioting.
  • “It’s a first for me” could easily be a lie but it’s still a bit distracting.
  • Cutting the Krennic/Vader scene is the right call.
  • Not sure it makes sense that 3PO and R2 are on the ground for that cameo but it is not as obnoxious as it used to be.
  • Jyn’s inspirational speach to the troops on Scarif still rings hollow considering her position. I’d cut it down further so she shares quote about Saw and then jumps straight to the exposition.
  • The Vader massacre works well as a post credit and I wouldn’t move it.

Really great work though. It makes Rogue One a much better watch for me. I never realised how much I disliked the score to that film until I looked into this edit.

I liked Jyn a lot more here. I love Rogue One and I loved it this way as well!
After the first episode I did have to rewatch series 1, then saw series 2 straight into your rescore. Seriously great experience with the tone shift for this movie. Thank you!

The rescoring goes a long way with this one. Before Rogue One felt more like an old Star Wars movie, more like a galactic adventure even with the lost lives; now it feels more like a continuation of Andor, a proper fight for the rebellion. Rogue One is still kind of a mess for me but now I can have proper closure after watching Andor.
Thanks for the edit NFBisms!

VERSION 2 UPDATE

Finally had some time over the past few weeks to whittle away at this. I think I won’t end up changing too too much from V1 - most of the changes will probably be in the final episode.

Here’s a quick test of the first 10ish minutes of “episode 13”

(I will probably change the title from “Jedha” to something else. Pitches welcome)

Differences in this clip from v1:

  • New quick and dirty recap of what’s important from the official last arc of season 2
  • Ferrix anvil // date cards
  • Reinstated extended sequence of Krennic’s shuttle approaching Lah’mu
  • Some new scoring for the transition to BBY 1

Other than that, you’ll notice I didn’t really change too much from V1. Maybe I’m too attached to what I’ve done?

Something I am kind of trying to figure out is what date to actually put onto those new date cards. Jyn in the movie itself does say it was 15 years since she last saw her father. But canonically, as per StarWars dot com and Wookieepedia, the Lah’mu sequence takes place in 13 BBY. The math doesn’t work out and that doesn’t even account for whether I am counting from 1 BBY, which apparently is the correct date of Rogue One, not 0 BBY. It’s a bit confusing so I opted for taking Jyn’s word for it and adhering to all of this still being BBY 1.

Here’s a clip of the new score for Jyn’s entrance into Yavin after Wobani

Again, nothing changed on Wobani from V1, but I tried to pad the Yavin sequence out a little bit more by including some footage from one of the initial teasers, to squeeze in the new motif.

So I’d been advocating for a reshuffling of scenes in the opening, but I gotta say, the way you’ve adjusting things here seems to fix my issues with the pacing very nicely. Great work! Bb
