I’m somebody who likes to collect and enjoy fanedits and preservations in the simplest way I can – I don’t burn them to discs, I don’t mess with home media servers, just let me play the files off a USB storage device on my TV and I’m good. For years, my Xbox and then my Roku TV more than sufficed for this, but lately I’ve been fining that for an increasing number of items they play the video fine, but I either get no audio whatsoever, or they will only recognize one random track, and NOT one of the English default options.

From what searching I’ve been able to do, I’ve given up hope of Roku bothering to fix it with a software update anytime soon (some have posited it’s an anti-piracy measure, which doesn’t entirely make sense to me due to how inconsistent the effect is, but I digress).

So, does anyone have current recommendations for good standalone USB media players to check out? So far I’ve found the names Zidoo Media Player, Dune HD, and Neumi Atom 4K Lite — if anyone has experience with these devices, or others I should look into, I’d appreciate it.
