Doesn’t removing the episode Droids in Distress cause a problem with continuity?
I think it’s removal actually helps continuity. That episode makes Kallus an irredeemable monster who ordered a genocide… One that Rebels only dealt with by making him “lie” about that. We still see that Zeb really HATES Kallus and comments that he shouldn’t have the weapon he has (in other episodes) so I actually don’t think we lose anything important believe it or not!
That’s the episode where Zeb finds out agent Kallus has a bo-rifle because he was part of the Lasat massacre.
While this is true, it’s also explored later on in season 2 when they’re both trapped on Geonisis’ moon so it’s not really needed here. In my edit, Zeb obviously hates Kallus, and you can see Kallus has a similar weapon. Its talked about that there aren’t many Lasats. So as the show goes on you get a sense that something horrible happened but don’t have to have it spelled out directly. So again, I don’t think we lose any substance, in fact by cutting this episode I think it improves world building and story telling. 😃
It’s also the episode where Kanan meets Bail Organa, who he later points out meeting before in the season one finale.
That’s right! But seeing them meet Bail isn’t really important. Just like seeing the Rebels meet Lando. They have an history of operation before they get Ezra AND between episodes. So although I cut this meeting, its not important for the story to know HOW they met.
Also, while I know Secret Cargo isn’t the most important episode, it would be cool to still keep now that it has a nice connection to Andor. Plus it shows the different rebel cells finally coming together to form the rebel alliance.
Its connections to Andor are a hindrance now 😂 so the overall story of canon is improved by this episodes exclusion. Why would Mon Mothman not go back with Andor… And instead PUT HERSELF IN A DANGEROUS SITUATION that ALMOST doesn’t go well… Absurd continuity that wasn’t well explained at all 😂 mostly because Rebels just wanted a Mon Mothman cameo episode. While it does show Rebels cells coming together, we do see that all across season 3 and the very beginning of season 4 so I don’t think anything is lost by its exclusion.
Legends of Lasat is also a fan favorite that’s now gone.
Quite frankly, I think the episode sucks. I think it gives Zeb awful characterisation and this episode combined with the epilogue is completely ignored by future projects (Mandoverse). So while there are aspects to enjoy about it. Its a side adventure that has so far never connected to the overall story in anyway.
Maybe you could include a lot of these cut episodes as extra bonus episodes the same way EddieDean has extra episodes in his Clone Wars Refocused edit?
There is the potential I do this, however my main focus at the moment is the core story of the show, not it’s filler episodes 😃
