ATTENTION NEW MEMBERS: "Link begging" posts will be deleted without notice

We’ve had an influx of new members signing up to request fan project links within project threads and then disappearing without participating further.

From now on, unless the owner of the project has explicitly instructed members to post requests for project links within their project thread, any link begging posts will be deleted without notice.

Yes, we know you can’t send PMs as a new member. That’s kind of the point. Think about it. However, you can read PMs sent to you by other members, so if they want to get in touch with you, they can.

Repeated violations of link begging will result in a ban.

New members can’t start new topics (including PMs) for the first 7 days. There are no restrictions on replying to existing topics.

For this reason, I actually think such posts should be allowed. A PM limit for new accounts makes sense to limit spam, but it’s not spamming to want to access the projects here, and I don’t think that folks should need to meet a threshold of participation in order to do so (particularly as long time members make such posts anyway). When I signed up for this forum more than 12 years ago (god), it was all in order to do just that; I didn’t even have the skills to provide much of anything of my own. I just don’t think that “disappearing without participating further” is all that bad. It’s probably the standard for any site on the internet and being too strict with new users risks turning off those who actually might stick around.

It is spamming when the creators of edits clearly say to PM or email them or provide ways to access their work in their initial post, but new users don’t care to read the rules of the site they are signing up for and are just constantly inflating threads with link requests.

EDIT: Moreso, the reason WHY this was established in the first place was because of existing users of the site getting annoyed with new users not bothering to even look into how to get an edit and then acting entitled when people a direct link wouldn’t get posted in a thread, or they would tell someone off for needing to wait to PM the creator.
