3️⃣ • Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith

1. Commander Coady head wobbling CGI

^ some 10 mins and 30 secs into this 14 minute 2024 WhatCulture youtube video: 10 More Worst CGI Moments In Star Wars

Placing the live-action head of Temuera Morrison onto the CGI bodies of clonetrooper did not work well in AOTC - often resulting in head-wobbling - and some ‘interesting’ looking scenes where his head seems to be in some unnatural positions.

As well as the above shot looking more like it came from an animated series or videogame - than an actual theatrical film.

2. Kenobi being crushed by CGI staircase - and not having his pelvis/hip shattered…

^ the sheer weightlessness of the CGI staircase not impacting upon Kenobi at all - despite landing on his hip…

3. Kenobi vs Battledroids in ROTS vs Dooku fight

^ The lightsaber appear to be at a differing 90 degree angle to where it should be in Kenobi’s hands - even when striking the droid Kenobi’s hand is pointing in another direction to where the lightsaber beam is on screen.

^ Then Kenobi looks down past the droid where it should have fallen - before the droid has actually fallen down the stairs. The awful looking weightless non-matching CGI / lightsaber just takes the viewer out of the scene.

For clarity - watch this video clip at ‘.25 playback’: www.youtube.com/watch?v=HLlf5bC1wxg - from 1 min and 8 secs onwards.

^ Kenobi’s lightsaber first makes contact with the battledroid - with Kenobi somehow unaware the droid is actually there.

4. Dooku’s CGI telescopic body-defying back-kick on Anakin in fight - whilst holding Kenobi mid-air

^ The backwards extending CGI/animated leg - along with the fairly awful execution of it.

The fight can also be seen here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=HLlf5bC1wxg - at 1 min and 15 secs into the video clip.

5. Grievous swirling his 4 lightsabers in front of Obi Wan - with no reaction…

The CGI here is not be bad in itself… yet makes little sense / bring issues and questions / take you out of the experience. IE, Grievous swirling his 4 lightsabers right in front of Obi Wan… within striking distance… who simply doesn’t react to any of it - and instead just stands there like nothing has happened (because McGregor had nothing to react to - or little-to-no direction on what the CGI would be / timing a response to it?)

Grievous should have just lunged and killed him - instead of all the needless and flashy spinning… 😉

6. Overuse of CGI backgrounds (and the quality lacking in them)

^ Near on everything in this scene is CGI - bar Hayden. Why not a real mechanical R2? Or a physical prop of the ship? Or a real background? Instead, the viewer is taken out of the experience by a lack quality CGI and immersion in the scene.

7. Weightless Droids?

There doesn’t appear to be any weight (or mass)- or real-world physics to the droids in the lift here - even when destroyed and being smashed - it feels fake; with the CGI almost like an animated cartoon vibe to it.

8. Yoda climbing up and onto Chewbacca after Order 66…

or…

at 39 seconds into this short Chewbacca in ROTS compilation clip: www.youtube.com/watch?v=0LOLduuy_Wk

9. The opening scene…

^ The issue isn’t with the quality of CGI itself - it is the sheer amount of CGI. To the point where it is difficult to focus on what is onscreen; and also difficult to care about what is taking place as it is all CGI (bar shots of Hayden and Ewan in their fighter cockpits); any stakes, resonance, emotional connection… it is akin to watching a computer game with no vested interest… as either side can introduce more CGI ships to the fray and it has little consequence - one side clones which we are given no personal connection with or to… and the other side; the droids…

A baffling and bizarre sensory overload on the eyes and ears - yet little impact on the emotions or investment of the viewer.

Battle Over Coruscant - Opening Scene - a 4 minute video from the Filmey Box youtube channel.

10. ‘All these Wookiees are dead’ scene…

^ why use a poor CGI looking Wookiee in the shot - and not a real Wookiee costume?

^ with immediately before and after… with some unfinished-looking CGI chicken walker vehicles.

or…

at 4 mins into this short ‘Every Time Clone Troopers Appeared in Live Action’ video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=yVDiLwAL9Eg

11. R2D2 vs the battle droids looking like a cartoon or videogame…

^ Due to the CGI, the scene really does look like it is from an animated series or video game - not from a theatrical film.

R2-D2 V. Super Battle Droids - Revenge of The Sith - 40 second youtube clip.

12. poorly CGI face (+ alignment) of Ian McDiarmid being pasted onto the stuntman in some shots of the fight vs Mace

13. Dooku flips over the balcony in the leadup to the fight vs Anakin and Kenobi

Poor use of CGI - again the body here seems to be almost weightless - when showing the CGI Dooku perform the front-flip (something that also appears to be out of character for Dooku; an elegant and distinguished character)

A 25 second video clip of the Dooku front flip: www.youtube.com/watch?v=6spfw8QJGmM

^ insert your own ‘Dooku lost as he gave up the High Ground so easily’ jokes here…

14. CGI wookiees vs droids on Kashyyyk - more akin to an animated series or videogame

or…

at 1 min and 02 secs into this 90 second clip featuring the Battle Of Kashyyk: www.youtube.com/watch?v=HEDY8JDnBYs

or…

this 12 minute Michael Jae youtube video: I Watched The Battle of Kashyyyk in 0.25x Speed and Here’s What I Found

^ some poor looking CGI shots; with characters dying despite not being hit by anything, and shots disappearing into thin air etc.

15. More CGI clone trooper battle shots looking like an animated series or videogame…
