Holy shit, haven’t seen any activity in this old thread of mine since 2023… so much so that I might have to make a new one because there have been some new info I’ve gathered for this project since, lmao.
Yeah, I’ve been slowly working on this recreation for quite a while now… you might be able to tell because the account I used here to make this thread was my old “IncrediStudios” one. Quite a relic of an era, if I have to say so myself. But while I have yet to share some actual screenshots, recreate the outtake credits, and actually complete the “snowcone” thing I brought up in this thread once, I will bring up a few things.
- The trailers may or may not be scrapped, dunno if they’re necessary or not, but they’d be cool to have for the project, I suppose. “For The Birds” will be kept though if I haven’t mentioned that already, especially since there’s some subtle differences between the theatrical version and the home video version.
- The DTS track on the Blu-ray is very faulty. Reason being is because the orchestral score that accompanies it is strangely “stereoed” into the surround sound channels, causing the soundtrack to sound odd. This has been the case for every release of the film since, even on Disney+ prints. I have a copy of the correct 5.1 mix on hand through the Academy Screener (the v1 mix, without the outtakes), which will be mixed with the final 5.1 mix that has the outtakes, which I also have isolated from a PAL DVD ISO. Despite this, there is a subtle difference between the DVD 5.1 mix and the Theatrical 5.1 mix too that I’ll point out in a new version of this thread.
- The color-grading, as brought up by AwesomeJ, will definitely match the DVD. I have already formulated this in Videoleap and the screenshots I have will show this. The Disney/Pixar logos will also look correct too.
- The snowcones thing is still a prominent thing in the project, and I’ll be using a 3D Blu-ray rip to accurately rotoscope it into the film. Interestingly, there’s also an error with a glacier that’s in one shot that disappears in the theatrical cut that’s fixed in the 3D version, but I won’t use that here since it’s inaccurate to the theatrical version.
- The Outtakes & Company Play reel during the credits is still missing. I have attempted to recreate it myself, but I’ve gone nowhere for a while. Notably, foreign TV prints have these in the credits, but I haven’t obtained an HD copy for myself unless you count a VHS rip of a Channel 5 airing from 2009 which has them at the end. If anyone happens to have a copy of the film which has these outtakes at the end in HD (and it actually has the missing “PixarVision”, “Buena Vista Negative Cutting”, Color Timing, etc… credits like the Blu-ray/Academy Screener DVD has for the v1 credits), please DM me. Again, I’ll make this clear in the new version of this thread. As a reference, I believe this version has aired on Foxtel Movies Family in Australia, various Disney Channel stations in foreign markets like China, Mexico and Indonesia, Star Movies HD in one market, and I presume any station elsewhere that DOESN’T have the newer Disney logo in front of it. If you see the old Pixar castle at the beginning, you have a good chance of finding the outtakes at the end.
And for the most part, I think that might be it! I’ll bring up anything new once I find time to make a new thread of this with updated information where it’s not tied to my old account that I barely use anymore.
