Now THAT is the cruel irony of God. Like Beethoven who has gone deaf, or a local triple jump gold medalist who eventually lost his legs.

Yeah, I have a friend like that too. He dislikes B&W movies so badly, I couldn't even get him to watch Clerks. CLERKS, for God's sake!

I wonder how he would feel about Schindler's List, then.

That's the stupidest comparison I've heard in a while. Comparing Schindler's List to Clerks just because they're both black and white. Granted, discounting a movie just because it's black and white is stupid in its own right, so I suppose the comparison is valid contextually. Sometimes, no joke, I turn the colour on my tv down all the way just to watch other movies in black and white.

I wasn't comparing the two. I was pointing out the fact that it was an excellent film that was shot in black and white, and that I wonder if that guy would still hate it for the fact that it was in black and white.

Oh, I'm sorry Adam. I wasn't saying that your comparison was stupid. Don't think I was being insulting. I meant more to say that those two films are incomparible, except in a stupid situation like this one, hating films just because they're black and white. Your comment was bang on in keeping with the stupidity of the situation.

Yeah, for someone to categorically dislike black and white films without even attempting to see the content is quite stupid. I assume that the person feels that way because they are a typical member of the MTV generation and look at all black and white films as "old and boring." Ugh. I mean, some are even shot in black and white to make a point (A Patch of Blue), or for effect (Schindler's List).

Oh, I thought you were saying that 2 of the best movies this year were black and white movies.

I didn't know she lost her voice because the surgery was botched!!!! If this is true, having torment hell and having to endure one botched surgery after another is too good for that jerk!!. He should be tied in a chair for all eternity and forced to watch Greedo shoot first and then all the PT scenes with Jar Jar, over and over and over again.......forever. Even that would not be enough punishment.

Oh, of course not. Those are "Star Wars" and "The Empire Strikes Back" ...

No, Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back are great, but the two greatest films ever made (imho) are Casablanca and The Godfather.

So do I. Except when it's supposed to be in fullscreen (some of Kubrick's).

I hate it that they're seriously considering Back to the Future 4, Indiana Jones 4 and Rocky 6. Damn you, Hollywood! Damn you, I say!

Unless it's an old movie that was made before widescreen and fullscreen formats existed.

MYTH! Kubrick only insisted that some of his films only be available on video in 1.33:1 because he was disgusted with the alternatives (pan-and-scan, which destroyed his compositions, and letterbox, which preserved the compositions at a reduced resolution [at the time]).

Princess Leia: I happen to like nice men.
Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

Actually, for Shining and Eyes Wide Shut, he shot the movies in 1.33:1, and for the theaters, he cropped the top and bottom, so the fullscreen version IS the most complete version. For Full Metal Jacket, he shot it between 1.33:1 and widescreen, so both ways lose a little bit. I am not sure how the other films are. The only films he did that are reall,y really intended to see in widescreen are Spartacus and 2001, although most of his films (except Shining and Eyes Wide Shut) are available in some sort of widescreen.
