ROTJ Script help

Any script experts out there? I am trying to reconstruct the shooting script of ROTJ and I am afraid I can only get so far with this. I am using the data from The Making of the Return of the Jedi book by Peecher as the backbone of the project and am adding on to that. Do any of you folks know if this project has been completed by anyone else yet? About every script I have seen on the net for Jedi is a fake. Aside from the published Public draft, are there any other authentic ones out there? I could also use related storyboards with scene numbers on them as well as call sheets. Any help you guys could lend would be appreciated. Hoo-ha!

I assume you've looked at these

- rotj-script

- return_of_the_jedi

- starkiller scripts

- here

- Annotated Screenplays

- here

- here

I hope they are of some help. When you have this project completed I would love to see it as I think I am going to attempt 'Building Jedi' at some point in 2006.

I hadn't seen those last two pages, but it is more of the same stuff. A fake and a public draft.

I actually have been spending all of my glorious free-time at work today working on it. I am about 3/5ths done with the structure. The battle over the Sarlaac is the thing that is giving me the most trouble now.

The novelization by James Kahn is immensely helpful. It seems to indicate that:

1. The book was written off of the shooting script based on how nicely (and unexpectedly) it dove-tails with the scene break-down in the Making of the Return of the Jedi book.

2. The dialogue in the movie was nearly always a match to the novel, and by extension, the shooting script.

I have also come under the impression that the scripts on the net labeled 'revised second draft' and 'third draft' are simply re-worked versions of the published, public draft (published in the Art of the Return of the Jedi and in the Annotated Screenplays. These re-worked drafts (especially the forged two different revised second drafts) take scenes that had been published in outside sources, such as the sandstorm sequence, and dropped them in where they belonged originally.

The fake scripts also have re-incorperated into them many of the Urban Legends of Star Wars, such as the false idea that the Lando and the Falcon didn't escape the Death Star in time. Another version that some fan likely put together has Han dying as well, being wounded instead of Leia at the bunker.

So, I am fairly confident I can piece together a reasonable facsimilie of this lost script. I ought to be at least able to get the scenes in the right order. I would just like to make sure the dialogue is as correct as it can be. This is where I could use help finding story boards and call sheets. For instance, these call sheets have been very helpful:

I hadn't thought of it like that, but you are right. Continuity isn't as jumbled. And who wouldn't like to see two Death Stars?

Wait, so in that script Obi Wan and Yoda are ressurected?
And the Jedi are able to freely travel between the netherworld and the physical world?
Weird
Fine, mister Lucas, while you're at it why dont you replace Lando with will smith?

Sluggo,

Just a thought, but does the ROTJ Radio Drama help you in your plight?

Jambre,
I wish it did. Good idea though. I found a few call sheets on the net which might help. Currently, I am trying to figure out whether the sub-plot of the Death Star trying to destroy the moon of Endor that is discussed in the novel was actually in the shooting script. This is tricky as the novel is the only evidence I have so far. A photo or storyboard would be helpful here.

See this. I'm assuming its all correct, but I don't know for certain.

It seems to have the differences between the various scripts, such as having the Luke/Vader/Emperor confrontation on the Imperials home planet instead of the death star. There are also some McQuarrie concept art of this, with The Emperor's and Vader's palace.

I didn't have the patience to read the entire thing. I basically skimmed over it. I like the idea of Obi-Wan and Yoda returning to help Luke on Corus- I mean Had Abaddon. Replacing the second Death Star with the city planet (whatever it may be called) would have made for a spectacular conclusion!

I also liked the Had Abbadon scenario and the whole script, it would have great if they had gone with it instead of a second Death Star.but then to me personally i didnt/dont mind a second Death Star being used, my problems are with the Jabba scenes i feel go on too long to the detriment of the rest of the story, but I still do feel Return of the Jedi gets unfair critism by people, though it is not as good as Star Wars or Empire Strikes Back...

The shooting script had the scene with luke constucting his lightsaber, the jawa inn, and the sandstorm scene unfortunately I have been unable to unearth a copy of it from anywhere or even find out what draft it was second or third?

The Annotated screenplays gives very little info. The peecher book is great, and so is the novelization as well as the comics adaptation by al williamson.

I would also recommend getting a copy of art of return of the jedi pre special editions. Skywalking has little tidbits of info as well. and of course there are those classic bantha tracks, cinematographer, and cinefex articles. I know they've had little bits in previous issues of the star wars insider. There is the issue that has the lost cut as well as the sandstorm scene by dr. david west reynolds. Then there is the 15th ann. issue of jedi.

Oh yeah and the notes on the limited edition return of the jedi soundtrack as issued by rca victor in 1997 special edition. There are little bits of music from the deleted scenes of jedi, it's funny we have never seen the footage but the music exists. Lucas probalbly has the damn stuff in his little fort knox he calls the lucasfilm archives.

There is some info you can get on the jedi bendu script site as well as t bones star wars universe under jedi deleted scenes.
He also has links to several other sites of note.
And by the annotated screenplays that early draft of jedi is authenticated, the revised rough draft.

Yes the one with lando's death is a fake and the kenobi scene in that draft is lifted from the novelization, the

lightsaber crafting scene was probalbly taken from peecher's book.
