- Force new users through a rules acknowledgment step, especially emphasizing “no link requests.”
Yeah, that seems a good idea - so many seemingly choose to ignore the ‘Welcome To’, ‘Help’, ‘About’, ‘How Do I Do This?’ and the pinned ‘Index & Help’ info threads located around the site here - let alone both the ‘site rules’ & ‘fan project rules’… and just make another needles and unnecessary ‘link request’ posts.
Some people do likely visit here through a direct link elsewhere online - though to not look around for any assistance or guidance on how to acquire projects is somewhat baffling… (despite having to register and activate their accounts on here)… with a few newer members expecting help by posting issues and problems in the actual project threads (and not in ‘General Assistance’ or ‘Forum Feedback’ sections of the site).
- Auto-remove or flag posts that include phrases like “any links?” or “where can I find…” from accounts with under X posts or under X days old.
I’d be up for manually deleting the various ‘link request’ posts on here. In an effort to not only clean the threads of these disruptive posts - but to also try and deter that all-too familiar mindset of 'the person above me made a link request post - so I will now too’ type of posting.
Plus, it is a real pity some project creators and members have left here over the project threads becoming ‘link request’ zones. It’d be a boom to get as many returning here as possible - and may help assuage others who may also be considering leaving here.
Simply getting project threads to be about the actual projects themselves once again; with thanks, feedback, reviews, suggestions, the exchange of ideas, overcoming technical or editing issues, possible future versions, or just simply joining in the posts on what people enjoyed about specific projects etc…
