Now that Cameron missed the mark on the new 4K transfer[…]

A nice way of saying that he and his crew idiotically messed things up after they had about three damn decades to get things right. Just pathetic.

Judging by the screenshots though, the one above seems to have even more black crush than the original scan which already has severe loss of details compared to the video variants.

We’d need the negative as cinema copies probably all have low shadow detail which overall makes me think that the HDTV open matte and the D-Theater one remain being the best versions available.

Would love to get the Raiders 35MM scan. Is there a way to get to it still?

If anyone still cares about this release, I’ve synced the subtitles from the Blu-ray and named chapter file from the NTSC DVD to this scan. You can grab them here. I’ve also reencoded the optical PCM track into DTS-HD MA, as my personal receiver sometimes has problems with PCM.

Hopefully the mods are okay with me posting the link since it isn’t the full project. If not, just let me know and I’ll take it down.

I prefer watching this to the horrible new UHD release, but if anyone does prefer that release and wants original subtitle font and timing, I’ve also done that, and they’re in the link as well. (Blu-Ray and UHD Blu-Ray).

Is there a better more updated film digital scan?
