my bro is 7, and he, me and my dad went to see ROTS in theaters, that being said I was 12, and am now 13. That also being said, ROTS and ROTJ are my brothers favorite films. My dad said ROTS semmed pretty up-beat and not dark at all- but that being said, hes a horror flick guy.
