I’d love to get access to your subs too since I’m having issues with the included subs in 4k80. Thanks in advance.

i’m having a hard time finding a way to download the subtitles. could anyone please provide me with the download link for the hebrew and english subtitles for the despecialized editions and for the blu ray versions? a download link for the full project would also be fine if finding the specific files is too difficult. thanks

PM sent. Project Threepio subtitles will sync only with Despecialized and other preservations of the original films. I don’t have any subtitles that will work with the official Blu-ray releases.

Keep in mind, subtitles in SRT format can be tricky for RTL languages like Hebrew. The PGS subtitles will definitely work correctly and I recommend those, but if you have to use SRT files, start with the “-compat” versions, and if those look funny, then try the regular ones (this is all described in the README). The main issue with RTL subtitles in SRT format is that ending punctuation can end up on the wrong side of the subtitle.

Hi,
I’m currently working on the “1993 LD comments” subtitles of the Trilogy, for me first, as I’m french & I’d like, waiting for 30 years, to be at last able to understand what all the persons say.
But, second, I could give them to the community if you’re interested…

You can certainly share your commentary subtitles here or in their own thread, but I won’t incorporate commentary subtitles into this project. While the scope of this project has grown to include all sorts of A/V variations, for my own sanity, I have to draw the line at commentaries and special editions.

Hi,

ok I’ll do that
What do I have to do precisely please ? Just post the srt file as an attached file in a post ?

Hi again,

an other thing which I find strange :

  • in the audio commentary files (from the 3 movies) I extracted in 1994/95 from the big LD setbox (containing also a book), there’s no sound between the commentaries
  • in the ones available in the mkv files, we can hear the dialogues between the commentaries

How is it possible ???

I made those tracks for Despecialized mixing the commentaries with the 1993 stereo tracks.

You can post a link to the SRT file or anything you like.

Hello,
ok, but I think that if I don’t choose the right web site, the link won’t last forever, will it ?
so, on which web site should I store the srt file please ?

Forever is a long time! Google drive, Mega, hosting sites like that are popular. But nothing lasts forever, and I have to periodically refresh my links as hosting services come and go.

Hi,
would it be possible to know what are the differences between the following english subtitles, please :

  • eng-full (I presume that ALL texts are subtitled, even the titles & the crawl)
  • eng-native
  • eng-sdh-native
  • eng-template

I could compare them, and probably would find differences, but my question is in fact mainly smthg like “are they provided by different (movie) sources & if so, which ones ? Or are they just different extractions from the ‘full’ subtitle ?”

From what I saw, I think that :

  • “native” are the original subtitles, without all english texts already seen in the movie (at the very beginning, Greedo’s sentences…)
  • “sdh-native” adds all the sounds (like the ones done by R2D2) to “native”
  • “titles” = the very beginning + Greedo
  • “nocrawl” = “native” + Greedo
  • “full” = “native” + titles

so I’m wondering what are the different origins of :

  • full Vs template (“full” seems more precise than “template”)
  • native Vs mono-native (“mono-native” seems better/more precise than “native”)

The readme.html file describes these differences under the “Project Threepio’s subtitle file naming convention (Which files should you use?)” heading, but in general:

“Full” is when the onscreen text is in a different language. So with your standard Star Wars preservation with English onscreen text, you would choose “full” for non-English subtitles. “Localized” (“native” in earlier versions) is for when the onscreen text is in the same language. So with your standard Star Wars preservation with English onscreen text, you would choose “localized” for English subtitles.

“Template” is just a template for creating new subtitles in other languages; it is not designed to be used as a subtitle on its own. Your standard subtitles (in the “original” subfolder in recent versions) are designed to match the dialogue in the stereo/6-channel mixes. “Mono” matches the slightly different dialogue in the mono mix (Star Wars and Empire, it’s identical for Jedi). “70mm” would match the slightly different dialogue/timing in the original 70mm cut of Empire, but would be identical for Star Wars and Jedi. “epiv” includes the “Episode IV” crawl subtitles, and “1985” includes the different dialogue in the Star Wars 1985 mix. SDH includes audio cues for the hearing impaired. “nocrawl” includes subtitles for alien dialogue, but not the opening crawl.

Many of these less-useful versions are filtered out/not included by default when you use PGS subtitles, which is the recommended format.

Hello everyone,

I’m glad to share with you the Star Wars (Episode IV) Audio Commentaries subtitles from the 1993 LD Definitive Collection, available here :
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1wgepfKheRV2UphD8OxAjmMLNK-3SLPW4/view?usp=drive_link

As it’s the 1st time I’m sharing smthg with google drive, please excuse me in advance if it doesn’t work !

It was a work-in-progress 30 years ago, then abandoned as I couldn’t do better, and I finally finished it, thanx to Fred, a friend of mine who used “whisper” to help me finish the transcription & fill in the numerous blanks I had.
Then I had to :

  • synchronise them with the audio commentaries timestamps
  • correct some errors –> if you see some others, don’t hesitate to correct them & tell me !
  • add the name & title of the person speaking
  • add the timestamp of each next subtitle
plus maybe other things I don’t remember.

So yes, any error should be reported so I can correct & update the subtitle on google drive.
NOTA : I created a .ass file so I can put italic format to introduce the person speaking.

I’m starting right now the ESB (Episode V) Audio Commentaries subtitles from the 1993 LD Definitive Collection.

I hop some of you will enjoy to have this file & finally be able to understand better what all these persons involved in doing Star Wars are saying…

Hello,

regarding these subtitles, I have a few ununderstable words :

  • “We also did the sequence with the Blockade Runner at the start of the film with the Party Jacks/pot ejects/potty jacks” (2nd commentary from Ken Ralston)

If someone could tell me what it really is… It’d be very appreciated !

I hear it as “We also did the sequence with the blockade runner at the start of the film where the pod ejects” I also thought this 93 commentary was with George Lucas, Ben Burtt, and Dennis Muren.

Hello !

thank you very much, it’s more logical indeed ! 😉
–> Could it be “when” instead of “where” ?

I have 2 other issues :
1/ after [00:47:00] : “…all kinds of bandle ears of ammunition…”
–> is it "bundle ?

2/ after [01:48:54] : “And that would be our background plate, we would base everything else on. Into that, we probably…”
–> could it be “… else on into that, we probably …” ?

Could be. Either way would work, and translating it means you can use whichever words make sense in that language.

1/ after [00:47:00] : “…all kinds of bandle ears of ammunition…”

the word is “bandoliers” (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bandolier)

2/ after [01:48:54] : “And that would be our background plate, we would base everything else on. Into that, we probably…”
–> could it be “… else on into that, we probably …” ?

“else on. Into” is what I hear.

Hi,

so here is the last “1993 LD commentaries” for A New Hope :
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1bWGEqUR72T7Krz8joaTKUJJjP95NLiGB/view?usp=drive_link
(v2.7 refers to the Harmy video file)
if I modify later my subtitle file, I’ll add a version like v2.7-1

For the people who would like to have the “native” audio commentary file, without the dialogs between, here it is :

Hi everyone,

I’m glad to post here The Empire Strikes Back 1993 audio commentaries from The Definitive Collection LDs :

As before, as there are quite a few moments when I don’t really understand what is said, please feel free to tell me when you can correct what I have written !!!

Here below are the different parts I think that are incorrect :

  • 1st commentary starting @ [00:00:19] :
–…Far beyond, I thought that we didn’t want to be done in Star Wars…
–…have a lot of people in the shots where it was in Star Wars…
  • 2nd commentary :
–…So every frame at a time so that we could…
–…all the camera shakes from the helicopter
–…not going to be shot at Tauntaun
  • 3rd commentary :
–…ships are going so fast that they are transparent…
  • 4th commentary :
–…based on what the background plates were doing…
  • 5th commentary :
–…I don’t think everyone would have moved (them) very well…
–…on that snow that you see is baking powder
  • 7th commentary :
    –…they looked like hovercraft
–…injured or had something give it a shot
–…So we went to baking soda
–…Mark runs away from his snowspeeder or nothing was in the shot
–…and then mat that over it…
    –…basically all cartoon animation…
–…behind a hill as it gets close to an object cast a shadow on it
  • 8th commentary :
–…Leading to dig above the ship…
–…to make the painted blue sections on R2 D2 read his blue
  • 9th commentary :
–…and luckily it got by George and (?), …
–…you might see a potato flying by (the ?) camera…
–…I think they’re the point of view “looking out through the cockpit” pass on, and everybody, as they’re staring straight ahead, some of those asteroids or potatoes…
    –…its rocket passes…
    –…it does this barrel roll…
    –…as it comes by camera…
–…you can’t see any of the garbage mats
    –…like lights and century stands
–…some of the backgrounds of the asteroids had a large “asteroid box”…
  • 10th commentary :
–…into these blue pylons mounted into it (???) against a blue screen…
–…we hung some little miniature goblety-gook like swamp vines …
–…this model and matted (???) in Luke …
  • 11th commentary :
–…I actually gave both the assignment…
    –…make him tall…
–…I think we have bringing versions… (green ?)
  • 12th commentary :
–…bodies and any (???) proportion of what you grow up (???)…
–…a very odd look that wouldn’t be put off-ish
  • 13th commentary :
    –…and Gary Kurtz (???), producer, the “price drags back” (???) I believe…
  • 15th commentary :
–…espousing philosophy at one point in the end, …
    –…I don’t know if that’s the found (???),…
    -16th commentary :
–…usually it was in the slate or before the slate
–…we were on the night ship …
  • 17th commentary :
–…that Frank do it, talk to Frank…
–…with it in a very fastened sort of way…
  • 18th commentary :
    –…since I’m baggabond…
–…I thought it looked ??? on me in the film…
–…which lay them in very white pale…
  • 19th commentary :
–…I’m not trying to get to it because I’m going to get to it.
  • 21st commentary :
–…that Brian Johnson shot sunset cloud pieces …
    –…Just joined by these strange…
–…to shoot multiple passes even on our color light passes …
    –…And it was just a chore …
    –…made out of plywood …
    –…have a fork lift …
    –…And John Van Blee …
