Star Wars: The Lost Planet (A Skeleton Crew Edit) [RELEASED 1080p, 5.1] — Page 4

I just finished watching this, and it was really solid. I’d probably watch it again and might even check out the original episodes now. To me, it looked like it had a higher budget than any Disney+ show—the space battles and planets were far more interesting.

My only critique is that it sort of comes to a sudden end and feels a bit open-ended. That might be an issue with the original source material, though.

Overall, I really liked it and would recommend it!

It is indeed an issue with the source material. I wish we at least had some sort of indication whether Jod escapes or is brought into custody.

Thanks Josh. As JarJar said, the ending is as it was presented in the series. Disappointing given that the series was otherwise excellent.

I really liked the show when it aired, but I suspect I will like the Smudger-version even better - I usually do.

So I’d appreciate a link 😃

Please be gentle if this is a dumb question, but my knowledge of video formats, codecs and containers are limited.

In the folder there are two version, one in ProRes.mkv and one in MOV. I grabbed the first one since mkv is a format I’m used to, but noticed something strange when I started to watch: It seems my left speaker is the main one for sound and talking, not my center speaker.

I tried to download the MOV-version and everythings seems (and sounds!) fine, with the sound coming from the center.

Is there something wrong with the ProRes.mkv-version or is it just my computer that can’t handle ProRes?

Hi there. Thanks for the message. You’re right, the mkv format does have the sound anomaly you describe. Handbrake must have altered the channels when compressing it from ProRes. I’ve deleted the mkv, just use the .mov - they’re the same resolution anyway.

Once again Smudger, another fantastic smooth edit, I’m glad you removed most of the At-achrin crappy subplot and got right to the meat of the mystery, everything flowed really well.

the only thing I did miss was the KB subplot with her augments, it was a really nice subplot that gave more character moments that was missing.

Just Finished watching it. Really enjoyed it, superb pacing, and very engaging. 2 suggestions would be: when Fern and KB meet Win and Neil, and then Win says "you!’ it just feels off. I feel like you could skip to when fern says: the name’s Fern. Just a thought. Also, some of the wipe transitions are a bit quick from scene to scene, such as when Fern says: I guess we’re splitting up. The wipe comes a bit too quickly in my opinion. Otherwise, FANTASTIC JOB smudger9!!!

Thanks for the feedback. Glad you enjoyed it.

The Wim-Fern “you-me” is how it plays out in the series. It’s a bit corny, but I quite like it and it immediately shows us their relationship… rivals.

Good point on the splitting up transition. It’s actually an L-cut rather than a wipe but it is a bit sharp. I wanted to end the scene on Fern’s line because its a stronger scene exit. However, there is an immediate cut to KB after she finishes her line. I’ve gone back and added in KB’s response “fine” which allows a better paced transition.

I’m sorry I didn’t get back to you earlier, smudger9, but life happened and it was not before this weekend I got around to watch the whole thing.

First of all: This is the way to watch Skeleton Crew. It flows so much better as a movie. If I ever gonna watch the show again, is will be this version.

The nitpicks:

I think maybe this has been discussed in the thread before: But when landing at At Attins twin planet the kids go exploring while Jod clearly stays behind. But then, all of a sudden, he’s with them at the tower. Knowing what was a cut fra episode, I can see why it had to be this way, but I think it will be confusing for someone who hasn’t see the show before.

The sidequest of the parents was always a weak point for me when I watch the show at D+. It still is. But I feel there was a too lang gap in their story in the middle of the film. We see them try to hack the barrierer system at 1:15:00 and then we don’t see them again before 45 minutes later. To be honest I forgot the sidequest before it popped up again.

One thing I never understood in the series is the reaction of the characters after KB and 33’s “crash landing” at the end. We clearly see them pull opp the ship before they crash. Would id be possible to make ut look like the crash actually happened. With some kind of explosion maybe?

And as always: as a foreigner, I would really appreciate subtitles. There were many lines I didn’t quite catch, because of all the other sounds and music and my limited English.

Anyway - thanks for this edit! I really liked it!

I knew there was one thing I could not remember when I wrote the last post:

I don’t think we got any clues/hints that the Wim don’t trust Jod not being a Jedi early on, but then all of a sudden Wim says something like “If you are not a Jedi, then how did you do that?”.

I recall KB say she has calculated the odds and therefore don’t trust him, but I don’t think we see the other kids, and certaintly not Wim, be mistrusting toward Jod before this scene?

Yes. This was pointed out by someone else too. I’ve already fixed it my removing that bit of dialogue. I’ll upload the version to the folder tonight.
