Jedi Temple In ROTJ!?

Author

Question: After they destroyed the death star and burned Vader and they start showing different planets celebrating, when they get to Coursant, they show the Jedi Temple in the distance all bright and lit, After RotS why did they leave it there, and why was it lit up? And why did Luke select Yavin for the Jedi Temple when he could have used the awesome Jedi Temple in Coursant? Any Ideas?

Good question. The most obvious reason would be because the DVDs where that was inserted came out after the stories with Luke rebuilding the jedi order were written. But as far as an in-universe explanation, I have no clue. Maybe he didn't want to associate the new jedi order with the old.

because lucas likes to have fun throwing a wrench into continuity for the sake of the god awful prequels.

I don't get it though. Why on earth would the Jedi Temple look brand new in ROTJ if it was so messed up in ROTS? I mean, why would anyone in that galaxy bother to fix it up? It makes you wonder, was it occupied by Palpatine or the e,mpire or something?

Why would the Empire allow the temple to stay up? I mean, to help wipe out the Jedi, you'd think that the Temple would be torn down. It was almost burned down during ROTS. And in the SE there is no jedi temple, that was only added for the 2004 release. To me, the Jedi temple was destroyed and no longer existed during the original trilogy.

It was turned into a Super Wal-Mart after the destruction of the Jedi.

^Exactly. Like I said in an earlier post, my guess is that the Empire fixed it up and used it for their own purposes, which would explain why it looks OK in the movie.

opk that is really really weird, cause according to the EU to jedi temple and all records and traces of the jedi were distroyed by pali, like luke doesnt even learn where is was until NJO when he has to protect the foundation stones, and after the NJO they re built it.

Palpatine turned the Jedi temple into a low rent apartment building. It's a dump on the inside!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!! All of that would be cancelled out by that one alteration Lucas made! All of that cool stuff in the post-ROTJ EU!

I heard that they converted it to a dome football stadium with Luxury Suites and everything owned by The Emperor.

Remember Palpatine was a good business man, I mean he didn't care that his face got electrocuted for 20 seconds and is now deformed, but he still had his wits.

Inside they had Dex, from Dex's Diner, who took care of all the food & drinks for the fans, plus if you had any secret questions on any missing planets, why not ask a fat alien with four arms instead of a jedi.

They had the two headed announcer from the pod race in TPM, why pay 2 announcers when you get 2 for the price of 1!

During the game there is always a marriage proposal in the crowd on the jumbotron, wait, here we go on opening night, some gawky blond-haired jedi who can't act worth a lick is asking this senator for marriage. She said yes, but he keeps mentioning how doesn't like sand for some reason. Take this off the screen, I am cringing everytime they talk to each other!

If you need something to drink quick, R2-D2 will fly and give it to you for an extra fee, but he only will do this for the first 3 movies, for some reason in the next 3 movies he can't fly anymore? Shouldn't have been the other way around?

Then the halftime show for all the kids, the mascot Jar Jar Binks, but beware, if your kid is over the age of 4, he probably won't think this gungan is funny. (If there is a backlash of Jar Jar, we may only use him in the first game, and then reduce his role for the rest of the season.)

And finally we have an indoor drug store with General Grevious selling cough syrup if your kid has a cold

Tickets $9.50

see this is what i mean by the EU being pointless now because lucas contradicted so much in the prequels, when all the authors tired so hard to keep it straight

I've been digging around in the Star Wars books at the library all afternoon, and yet, i can still find only a little on the Coursant Jedi Temple, and the only thing I could find out about it was that it was not destroyed, but it was left abanoned, what i would like to happen, and I want it to happen so badly, I am tempted to write a short Star Wars book about it. (details to be posted later) .

Here are some of my ideas how it stayed like it did:
1. They probally had droids that cleaned the place, inside and out (heck, after the temple was attacked, i bet they had lots of cleaning to do.)
2. About the lights: Its possible they had those everlasting lightbulbs (sure, they don't exsist now, but they will in the future.)
3. About it being used for something else: I doubt it, I imagine that after Yoda and Obi-Wan Kenobi left, they locked it down because they did not want it used by the Sith or Empire

Anyone agree with this?

How do you get the screen shots from the movies?

To actually capture the image, you'll need a video editiing program with the film on your computer. And you'll need to follow the procedures of that program.

After you capture the image from the film, you create an account at photobucket.com or some image hosting site, and upload the image to it. And then, after you upload it there, you put a link to the image in your post here.

Also, if it was your choice, what would you choose?:
1. Have a Jedi Temple in the middle of nowhere, that is dark and cold and it probally had bug &mold problems
2. Have a very nice Jedi Temple on coursant, HUGE, and well, you know the rest.

Personally, I'm for 2

Also: on Lukes Jedi Temple which was on Yavin, I noticed in a book the Old Sith Temple was on the same planet!

Palpatine probably defiled the Jedi Temple. Turned it over to Vader, or his other Dark Side acolytes. Filled it with trophies of the Purge. So Luke would've avoided the place if he was ever in the neighborhood -- to him, it wouldn't be "the Jedi Temple," it'd be "Vader's Palace," or "the Imperial Museum -- Jedi Coup Annex," or just "the site of the greatest massacre of the Jedi in four thousand years."

That's assuming he ever was in that neighborhood. That region of the city might've been destroyed by the Lusankya's exodus shortly after the Alliance/NR took Coruscant. Even if it survived that, it was probably destroyed during the Mutiny, the Imperial resurgence and interneccine warfare leading up to the events of Dark Empire. Or maybe Luke's Star Destroyer landed on it, in a sort of ironic twist on Force piloting?

I'd like to believe that the temple itself is some sort of trophy of the Purge. It's lightened to show like some sort of monument, and symbol of the Jedi's defeat.
I'd also like to believe that no one in the empire, even the Emperor, has been able to enter into it, cause of a Froce protection or keeping spirits, pretty much like old Massassi temples guarded by Sith spirit (in Jedi Academy trilogy books).
Now, we can imagine that, after Coruscant has been took back by the Rebellion (becoming the New Republic), no one, again, has been able to enter into it, even Luke. After all, he's no part of the old Jedi Order and might not know how to open it.

Anyway, it's a story (and I'm not talking about my imagination) that worth a novel. It could be very interesting.
Concerning Lucas, I think he has done that just for the symbolic meaning. At the first plan, we see the falling statue of the Emperor (the fall of the Empire), and in the background, the Jedi Temple still there (the Jedi Order is still alive). It's a pretty good shot, if we don't compare it to the EU...

Agreed.
