No Golden Globe nominations for Sith

Not a huge surprise although I think Ian McDiarmid was worthy of a nomination, especially given that Johnny Depp got nominated for his performance in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I give up on award shows. Every year they nominate films that are nowhere on the public radar screen.

Because, usuallly the majority of the films on the public radar are loads of crap. It always seems to be the rather unknown ones that are truly great; usually the ones that studios have the least involvement in.

I agree. I also agree with whoever dishes out the Golden Globe sthat Sith doesn't deserve any awards.

War does not make one great.

It's all pollitical. Some of the best movies out there are the independent ones nobody knows of. I also agree that Sith doesn't deserve any nominations. I liked it, but other than technical noms., it won't get any. Same with the Oscars. I don't really believe in award shows anyway.

I thought Johnny Depp was great as Willy Wonka.

I think one of the flaws of the Award shows is that comparing a screwball comedy to an epic drama is like comparing apples and oranges. Casablanca, The Wizard of Oz, Beauty and the Beast, North by Northwest and Star Wars are all such different films so how do you judge them against each other. Is a movie that makes you cry necesarily better than one that thrills you, makes you laugh or makes you scream? It's kind of like the silly ESPY awards where Tiger Woods, Roger Federer, Peyton Manning, Michael Phelps and Alex Rodriguez could all wind up in the best athlete category. You just can't compare these guys. And this coming from the same network that put a horse (Secretariat of course) on its best athletes of all time list! Imagine all the great athletes who were left off the list. "They ranked a horse higher than me!!!!" Hehe

Sith does have a chance to win a Best picture Oscar. Best ANIMATED picture that is. I hear they are seriously considering it for that category.

Gee, I wonder why ANH, ESB, and ROTJ all won acadamy awards and yet... the prequal trilogy has won none. Hmm...let's think about why this might be. Hmm... ponder, ponder...

Movies, like any other form of art, should not be "judged". The problem is that they aren't looked at as a form of art. Hell, most movies aren't anymore, but just studio money grabs. But there are still a few true artists out there. I think Lucas considers himself an artist, but uses a different medium.

There could be several answers for this. Mine is because those who give the awards are mostly from the generation that grew up with, and hold a personal attachment to, the OT, and, you know the rest. Of course, someone elses opinion might be that the PT were just bad films judged by completely not biased people.

I agree, art should never be judged. I've seen some Futurama porn on the internet that belongs in the Louvre, next to the Mona Lisa. There's a couple of cereal bowls sitting in my floor with dirty spoons. It's an avant garde installation, sure to revolutionize the art world. I have written several thousand pages of an action-adventure story set in Middle-earth starring myself, and it's just as much art as the Iliad, Hamlet, or Huck Finn. I used my camcorder to tape myself, nude, singing Lapti Nek and writhing in front of a strobe light for two hours. As a performing artist, I am the equal of Peggy Lee, Connie Francis, Anne Baxter, and Jodie Foster. The video is just as artistically valuable as Gone with the Wind, Schindler's List, and Citizen Kane.

Why would you need to see it? Art cannot be judged, so you would get the same utility out of watching Power Rangers as you would watching me do Lapti Nek. Or watching the O-OT, or reading Shakespeare, or whatever. Merely wanting to see it is making a judgment, you're saying that you want to see it more than you want to see the set of alternatives. (Not judging it as art per se, but still evaluating it against its opportunity cost.)

That's irrelevant. It's art.

Art is subjective, therfore it cannot be fairly judged. And you can't hoinestly claim that the prequels are not art, since art is subjective.

i know its subjective, but alot of people would agree with me including the voters

No, it won't. Some may not like it, but you've got to admit it's not as bad as TPM or AOTC.
