When will the recording industry ever learn?

Labels Target Lyrics Sites.

When is the RIAA going to wise up and realize they're destroying their own industry.

On a tangent, do you realize how long it takes artists to legitimately license a song? There are so many hoops an artist has to jump through to give a songwriter their fair share, and let's face it, most musicians don't have a head for business. Some do, many don't. Especially the ones that succeed.

So why must the labels and their lawyers make it extra hard for those who want to do things the right way to get paid?

And back on the topic of the article, is it indicative of just how bad things in the recording industry are? Now that they've shut down Napster they have to go after sites who reprint lyrics without permission (or more to the point without paying royalties)? And do they really need to nail people for sharing guitar tab? It seems they actually do not want to inspire musicians to learn their music. It makes it easier to groom talentless crap bands like they've done for the past 8 years.

You're surprised by this? It's the logical next step considering their "progression." Sad, really. They just don't understand that the real reason that music sales are down is because they keep putting out shit. Not because it's being stolen.
"You fell victim to one of the classic blunders, the most famous of which is 'Never get involved in a land war in Asia'."

That... is the dumbest thing I've ever read in my life. Why in the hell?! I miss the Internet before everything it did became some huge affront to every industry in America. Back when no one really cared what the Internet did... But I agree with Bossk. It's the next logical step. I wonder what the next "logical" step after this stroke of idiocy is?

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

A Radiohead comunity website called Green Plastic some time ago had a cease and desist from EMI because their site had all their lyrics - and they claimed it would hurt the sales of their song book or something. They refused to let the lyrics go, even though they did had it offline for a while.

And the result? Radiohead authorized them to get it back, and they are now recording on their own, broke up with EMI. Their next album will be absolutely indie, which should be nice.
“Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.” — Nazi Reich Marshal Hermann Goering

Kudos to Radiohead. Hopefully they'll buy their back catalogue back from EMI so I don't have to buy EMI's copy-protected shite.

Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

They are not too keen on people posting the notation or guityar tab either. I'm not going to buy the overpriced songbook either way, so back off.
