And with the exception of the car chase, most of the action in Begins was pretty underwhelming anyway. Nolan was great establishing the characters; next time I hope he works with someone who can pull off the POW as superbly as he did the pathos.

And now all of y'all's praise for it has made me desire to see Narnia.

Well, Jas, I apologize. I wasn't trying to get a shot in as you call it but I apologize anyway. I also am pretty big on film and it is something that I am getting involved in. The reason I asked how old you are is cause your posts sound like your an angry teenager.

And I listed those movie cause I liked them and age has no bearing on whether or not you like a film. Whether the film is appropriate for someone to see is another subject entirely. And I might also add that this forum is anout peoples opinions. Thik of it as a way of getting to know someone a little more.

And believe it or not, I have my problems with narnia. I felt that there really weren't any characters to invest in and care about, other than moments of lucy.

I just wanted to say that I'm not here to fight just trying to get a bead on where your coming from and sometimes, age has alot to do with that.

Warbler: That entire post wasn't even directed at Master Sifo-Dyas... In fact, I haven't said ANYTHING to Master Sifo-Dyas this ENTIRE time... I don't even know how you made that mistake, seeing as how I even mentioned Switch Radic BY NAME in that comment. You obviously took no time in reading or understanding my post.

Anyway, apology accepted Switch Radic. Sorry if you feel I got UP TIGHT or RUDE, but personally, I don't think I did!

yeah, I'm sorry Jastel. I've edited my prevous post. I don't how I could make such a dumb stupid mistake like that

Don't worry about. I see now that Master Sifo-Dyas posted directly above Switch Radic, so I can understand how you got confused.

But I still don't think you actually read my post before criticizing it, or else you would have noticed that I said Switch Radic's name... Anyway, forget about it, it doesn't matter.

btw, I just want to tac this on: I'm not "here to fight" either, as some of you seem to think I am. I guess my comments can come across as harsh if you don't agree with 'em, but honestly, I'm just trying to say what I'm thinking! It's not like I enjoy getting into confrontations like this (especially when 99% of the people I'm talking to completely disagree with everything I say), but I'm not going to bend backwards and completely reword what I'm saying just because people might find it "HARSH." I mean, I'm not going to stop every time I've made a comment, look at it, and go "hm, will this meet the level of politeness that people are expecting?" because honestly, as stated before, I don't really care about what people on the internet think of my manners! I'm sorry if I come across as a JERK sometimes, but that's just me saying what I'm feeling!

No, it's simply me being me. The way I am, the way I feel. I wouldn't expect anything else from any of you, so please don't expect anything more from me!

Sorry, but I don't think asking for reasonable politeness, common courtesy, and a little respect is asking for too much.

Man, I don't even personally think I was rude, with the exception of my second post, which I apologized about long ago. I mean, I haven't cussed, I haven't (blatantly) called anyone any kind of names, I haven't said any kind of derogatory terms like faggot or anything.

I just felt like I needed to apologize because people like you call me a jerk (why? because I use sarcasm?).

I mean, I could have come in here and screamed "HEY FAGGOTS YOU ALL NEED TO FUCKING GROW SOME BALLS, BITCHES," and I have been on many message boards where people HAVE done that. Seriously, I've been reasonably polite 90% of the time, and the parts I wasn't polite about, I apologized for (long before you came in here and called me a jerk).

I really think you're just calling me a jerk because you disagree with me!

Everyone seems to have a hard-on for 'The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe' (or THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA, EPISODE ONE .™©®, as the marketing guys at Disney seem to prefer), but, as a fan of the books, it seems to me like nothing more than a LOTR cash-in/rip-off. I could be wrong and I hope I am (I am yet to see it) but it really just seems like they have taken a classic book and knocked out a quick action/fantasy/holiday season movie guaranteed to sell Happy Meals. A female friend of mine who is not really big on movies was even under the impression that it was 'by the same guy who done Lord of the Rings'.

P.S Jaster, even though I don't feel as strongly about it as you do, I didn't think Batman Begins was the best thing since sliced bread that everybody else does. It was ok, pretty good actually, but it didn't blow me away in any department.

War does not make one great.

Here, I may get shot down for this but...

Am I the only one who thinks King Kong could be overrated? I checked rottentomato, and reviewers are toting it as the "best movie evar." Could I be the only one who feels that this may not be as good as the hype?

It's unfair to judge a movie before you've even seen it, but it is possible! I have to admit, I wouldn't be surprised at all if the critics were blowing it way out of proportion. I kind of feel like everyone's just getting in line to kiss Jackson's feet. Empire listed Bad Taste as the 11th best indie film of all time. I guarantee you that the movie wouldn't even have made the list if RotK hadn't swept the Oscars. People forget that, before LotR, Jackson was a completely worthless director, and Bad Taste is a great example.

It's really hard to tell, with directors like Jackson, when critics are actually being serious about what they say, and when they're just trying to play suck up. That's why we need to see it ourselves, so that we can judge it on our own.

Also, Yoda, I agree with you completely about Narnia.

I will have to agree with those who were disappointed in Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. My biggest complaint is the seeming need for all the action sequences. I haven't read the books in about five years, but I'm pretty sure the waterfall sequence was not in there. It seemed a bunch of the scenes were too short and might have missed some main points. There is no mention that Aslan is a lion before they get to him. I prefer the cartoon from the 70's. This one was not a bad movie, just not really good. It does not make my top ten.

I was talking to a coworker about the way I was feeling about Kong...now I realize I haven't seen it yet and that I shouldn't judge it before I see it...but I think I realized what it was I was feeling...

Its a remake. I'm sick of remakes. I don't care if its going to be a successful one or fail miserably. I think I'm just fed up of the good ol' rehash.

One big problem I had with Narnia was it's editing. It wasn't put together very well at all! Like the scene where Edmund is eating the Turkish Delight and drinking whatever that drink is. Did anyone else notice how he would have crumbs all over his face in one shot, and then it would go to a different angle and all of a sudden they were gone? It was driving me insane when I was watching it.

And the scene where Lucy throws the dagger at the target. When it cut back to her, the dagger was still in it's sheath!

Also, the special effects were, for a Disney movie, surprisingly bad. Movies don't need to have INSANE SPECIAL EFFECTS to be good, but if you're going to make a movie that is 60% CGI, you should at least make the CGI look somewhat decent. :\

I also didn't much care for the acting. At least from the kids, anywany. Every time they said something, it seemed like they were reading it off a cue card or something. And the White Witch was actually portrayed better in BBC's made for TV movie version. The Witch in the new version just seemed dull and wasn't very intimidating at all. It's kind of sad, considering I'm positive the Witch in the Disney version was paid a whole heck of a lot more than the one in the BBC version, even though the one in the BBC version was far better.

Overall, I just thought the Disney version was pretty boring and stupid, and, like Yoda said, a quick way for Disney to cash in on the popularity of LotR and Harry Potter.

-edit-
Oh yes, one movie I've been meaning to see practically all year, but just haven't taken the time to do so yet, is Cinderella Man. I've heard nothing but good things about this movie. Have any of you guys seen it? What'd you think about it?

perhaps I overreacted I'm sorry. But one correction though: I did not can you a jerk, I merely said your were acting like one. It may slight, but there is a difference.

I'm not even sure if I've seen a total of five movies during this "year of the remakes." Has there seriously been a year with more remade films?
I've seen:
Kingdom of Heaven
Revenge of the Sith
The Brothers Grimm
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

I will see Harry Potter, I intend to see Narnia and wanted to see Howl's Moving Castle, Serenity and Mirrormask.
Guess I'll do top three.
1. RotS
2. Hitchhiker's Guide
3. Brothers Grimm

Take back the trilogy. Execute Order '77

I'm a fan of the books, and the only problem I had with the movie was, as YIYF said, pushing this CHRONICLES OF NARNIA EPISODE I crap. Everytime someone asks me, "Have you seen Narnia, yet?" I respond, "Yeah, I've seen The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe." I don't know. I really liked it. I thought it expanded the story very well. And it's nice that some events were actually portrayed rather than just talked about. I found it much more emotional to actually see Edmund get taken out by the White Witch rather than have Peter tell Aslan after the fact, "Well, it's Edmund who saved the day by breaking her staff, but she hurt him really bad." I'll probably get seriously flamed for saying that...

By the way, I've always been a fan of Edmund not only because he's the most interesting of the kids, but because my real first name is also Edmund. ^_^

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

Just like the problem I have when someone calls ANH "Star Wars."

Yeah, that's the correct name of Star Wars. The real and true title not "episode blah blah.."

I'm afraid not. That's what the studio wanted to call it. The original title was and is Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, like it or not. As with all cases where the studio makes their own alterations, Lucas was simply able to restore what he wanted.

The studio that produced the film was Lucasfilm. 20th Century Fox was little more than the distributor.

Back on topic: Does anybody feel the films of 05 were VASTLY superior to 04? Last year was horrendous. This year was a bit better than average in terms of movie quality. Not 1994, but certainly not 2004 either.

I'm referring to the fact that Lucasfilm was forced to change the title to fit the "standards" of 20th Century Fox. This is well explained in the Empire of Dreams documentary.
