Is the new Once Upon A Time in the West 4K STILL a downmix instead of the real mono?
I can’t confirm the status of the lossy mono mix on the US release, as I held out and bought the Italian 4K due to its better encode. It did not include English mono, so I created a sync of the 1994 Laserdisc mix (dual mono, 44.1kHz) for it. The Italian mono from the 4K included the correct end credit music, so it was spliced in.
I have two versions of the sync available, no adjustments needed:
- 2011 US Blu-ray “Restored Version”
- 2024 Italian 4K - should also work with US 4K
