I’m getting to the point where I wholly dislike legacy franchises and their continuations and reboots, or remakes. and fans need in general to recapture their childhood.

I guess I could change my opinion at some point, what I mean is the disillusionment with Disney Star Wars because it didn’t give us the Luke Skywalker people wanted. and the years of caterwauling and the complaints.

The stagnation of creating nothing new. media going backwards, Science fiction and fantasy film de-evolving. Young people getting my childhood remade and repurposed instead of getting original content.

I still love The Cosby Show despite what Bill Cosby has done. Personally, I choose to separate Bill Cosby from Cliff Huxtable. For me, they are two entirely different people, as opposite as they could possibly be. I simply cannot reconcile the idea that they are one and the same, so I choose to think of them as if they existed in two parallel universes.

This mental separation is made easier for me due to the fact that I am Italian, and in the Italian-dubbed version of The Cosby Show, Cliff Huxtable is voiced by Ferruccio Amendola. His voice creates a sort of barrier between the real-life Bill Cosby and the fictional Cliff Huxtable. Another thing that helps me separate them is the fact that the name of the show in Italian is completely different. In Italian, the family’s name is not Huxtable, but Robinson. Therefore, the show is called The Robinsons, which means that the name “Cosby” is not even present in the title. It is as if Bill Cosby does not exist in the show at all, and this helps me a lot.

I understand that not everyone is able to separate the art from the artist, and I respect that. However, for me, the voice of Ferruccio Amendola in the Italian dub provides just enough distance to allow me to continue enjoying The Cosby Show for what it meant to me growing up, without the constant reminder of the real-life issues. In my experience, Cliff Huxtable speaks with Amendola’s voice and the name of the family is Robinson. These differences help me maintain a clear distinction between the fictional loving father and the real-life serial rapist, allowing me to continue appreciating the show without feeling conflicted.

Kefka should have represented Final Fantasy in Smash Bros. instead of Cloud or Sephiroth.

My opinion is some franchises have a natural life cycle and should die and people need to let them go.

Stop hoping Berman Star Trek comes back 20 years after Star Trek died. Stop hoping Disney sells Star Wars back to George Lucas or just sells it in general.

People want their franchises to remain the same way as they were, when they were young. They kind of expect and want them to continue forever when the entire nature of the universe is eventually all things end.

It’s not just limited to these two examples, they should also stop making Ghostbusters movies. And Jurassic Park is more than played out. We don’t need a fifth reboot of the same Superhero film made again.

Copyright law should be restored to its original intent and works after a time works should fall into public domain and a sharing of ideas should occur and derivative works, not the perverse copyright exists after an author has died long ago. not in a favor of capitalism or corporations.

No giving mickey mouse eternal life as a Disney owned character long after Walt died. We gotta pervert the entire law to protect steamboat from going public domain. To which they eventually lost anyway they just delayed it by decades.

Patents should expire too and hobbyists should be allowed to do Roms of Nintendo games without legal consequences.

Preservation of long out of print works should be protected under fair use.

Why would I hope that? There’re reasons why I’ve never bothered with VOY or ENT. If I were to hope for anything, it’d be the return of Meyer/Bennett Trek.

Gods for some, miniature libertarian socialist flags for others.

Meyer worked on two shows Discovery and the unmade Khan show none of his ideas were used or produced.

Whether his Star Trek Ceti Alpha V podcast audio drama ever gets off the ground its beyond my ability to predict.

The amount of movies he was attached to, through the years that didn’t get made is too hard to count.

His Don Quixote is the most interesting to me I wonder why it didn’t happen. That and his version of Tomorrow Never Dies.

His Star Trek is Hornblower, Shakespeare and Melville. Along with World War II submarine movies. He didn’t make them as sci fi they only happened in the future. Also VI largely comes from his interest in geopolitics and Sherlock Holmes.

They work like a play. They don’t lend themselves to hundreds of millions of dollars Star Wars style explosions and cgi. Which is what JJ Abrams did.

Tex Avery’s cartoons are hit or miss to me. Sometimes I found of some his cartoons funny (like Garden Golpher), others I find a bit corny. I think the best he has ever done are I’m Cold and The Legend of Rock-a-Bye Point. I can understand why he’s iconic though, Tex Avery changed the face of animation for the better at the time when there’s a ton of sappy Disney clones (especially the 1930’s.

Anyway, I prefer the Fleischers’ cartoons.

I find the animation in Balto to be off-putting than the direct to video sequels.

Except for the first couple of seasons, Family Guy is extremely bad. I have never understood why people like it so much. Honestly, I never liked that kind of humor, and the more the show went on, the worst it got. I am sorry, but watching Peter fart in Meg’s face, Stewie killing people, Chris acting like a creep, and Quagmire literally raping women is not funny. The episode where Meg snaps and tells everyone to go to hell is the most realistic one. And I am not one of those overly sensitive people who gets offended by everything. I enjoy black humor, I enjoy action movies where characters kill each other, and I am the first to laugh at my own disability. But Family Guy jokes about things I have absolutely no desire to laugh about.
