I was perusing through these versions of LotR and while the color on these versions of the trilogy look really amazing, the grain has unfortunately been quite scrubbed away. While comparing the official extended editions to these theatrical versions it’s immediately noticeable how clean these look. A bit too clean for my taste, but your mileage may vary. Pretty weird how they scrub away the grain in the 2009 theatrical blurays but then keep it in tact for the 2011 extended blurays.

If you don’t like grain, then these versions are perfect for you. But if you do like it in these films, then I’d suggest the 35mm regrades by remsouille.
